Don't know how to do textures and shaders

This is for Daz 3.1 by the way and NOT daz 4.

Say I have a basic M4 figure with all the Elite +++ and bases etc etc how would I edit the textures and shaders of his body?
Can anyone guide me through a very basic texture and shading lesson? or perhaps give me a link to a vid tutorial or something which could teach me as I never really understood it.

I cannot seem to find a basic tutorial on textures either its like they have all been removed off utube or google and replaced by some add on for Daz 4 or something.

Thankyou.

The Surfaces pane lets you edit settings for materials, you use presets to apply different shaders if you need something other than the default, and an image editor is used to edit textures. It isn't clear from your post what you are wanting to do.

The DAZ Studio 3 users guide can be found here:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/3/start

See this thread here - http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=134854 - for different tutorials on DS3 including surfaces. Sorted according to topic. Surfaces are in the middle. I recemmend the lighting tutorial here - http://digilander.libero.it/maclean/DStutorial.htm - as well since that too will play a role in the overall look of your finished render.

Creating textures for and using surface settings in the old version of studio and 4.5 is pretty much the same. The only real change is the surface selection tool. Other than using the older file types for saves the newer tutorials should still be pretty apt.
