Issue Parenting Genesis Figures to another figure/object

For some reason when I am trying to parent a Genesis figure (I tried both G2F and G3F with same results) to another object (like a bike or horse saddle, stuff like that) it literally takes no less than 5 minutes (usually more) for it to actually parent.  I get the whole spinning wheel and the "Not Responding" message through the whole time.  I originally thought I had a messed up morph so I moved out numerous folders at a time to see if I could isolate the one that may have been causing the issue.  When I just had the one daz folder in the morphs section the parenting went quick but there was still a noticable lag.

I reinstalled Daz 4.9 and with just the basic morphs i got the same result (quick parenting, but noticable lag).  As soon as i put all the morphs back in to the morph folder the 5+ minute parenting returned.

The odd thing is I have a older laptop that has Daz 4.7 on it.  I purchased this new laptop because it had the specs to handle IRAY and I just use the old one as a back up for my daz library.  So the old laptop has all the exact files on it that the new laptop has but it is running Daz 4.7.  I tried to parent the exact same figure to the exact same prop there and the parenting was instantaneous like it always had been previously so now I am thinking it may be an issue with my DAZ 4.9.  My current laptop specs are:

Intel core i7 2.6

16 gig ram

nvidia gtx 960M

64 bit operating system

Any assistance would be appreciated.

EDIT:  Oh and I should add that parenting things to the genesis figure is fine.  Its just when I try to parent the genesis figure to something.

  • I see this too, so it isn't just you. Please report it as a possible bug.

Whats the best way to go about this?  I never had to submit a bug with Daz Studio before.

  • Open a Technical Support ticket http://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us . I do wonder if it is the number or properties a Genesis figure has, and the parenting is having to check each for possible interactrions.

I don't see this. I have parented Genesis (no clothing or hair) to the NRH Dragonfly then changed the parent to the Moped and get instantaneous response. Win 7 64 bit, 32 GB ram I7 3.5GHz, GTX 980TI.

When I parent a G2F character (Cara HD) with skin, the resposne is a bit slower but still only 5 seconds or so. G3F (Cailin HD, skin no hair) quite a bit longer but still ~20 seconds.

The scene has both the Dragonfly and the Moped in the viewport.

I'm guessing you're using Daz4.9.  I never tried Genesis, just genesis 2 and Genesis 3 as those are the figures I use.  I just tried Genesis and there is a noticable lag in parenting Genesis to anything in Daz 4.9.  You are correct in that each generation has increased times in parenting.  The thing is though those lag times are present only in Daz 4.9.  When I tested this in Daz 4.7 on my much older, much slower laptop a fully clothed Genesis 3 character with hair , textures and a massive scene with loads of props the parenting is instantaneous. As it should be.

  • Potential workaround: rather than parenting, make the two items into a group instead.
