This is possibly because fisheries are getting extremely depleted. :( The oceans are overharvested. :(

They are. We've got European trawlers down here in the southern hemisphere for just that reason. :(
Some fisheries do attempt to keep "captive" stocks (ie big pools separated from the ocean)... but unfortunately, the associated costs tend to result in pretty basic "ponds", which in turn result in pretty "basic" tasting fish :(.

ETA: why aren't you asleep, Skiriki! :P

    Yep. Major suckage.

Um, I fell asleep about 7:30 pm, woke up 11:30 pm, and been up since. And then I remembered that holy crud, 5th day is when the tax returns hit the bank accounts and today right now is 5th but of course at 2 am the transfer has not happened, so I'll check again at 3 am and maybe 4 am... since I know that at LEAST by 6 am they're there but I want to get my munny sorted and...

    Yeah. :)

    Yaay it's raining! Wheeeeeeeeeeee!

    ...meanwhile here,

    ...bugger, it's raining...once again...Ick and poo

Floor's making squishy sounds, Shoes and hat are thoroughly soaked through. News reports of Landslides, Flooding, Sinkholes, Uprooted Trees, Power Outages, Locusts!!!!

...OK, no locusts...at least not yet. 8-/

...though thought I saw some tentacles squirming out from a flooded storm drain while on the way home.

One storm finally moves off and another queues up off the coast ready to dump even more rain on the already soggy landscape.

If this all fell as snow Portland would look more like Buffalo NY did a few winters ago. Of course that much snow, in a place where it takes only a couple inches to bring the city to a complete standstill, would be an epic level event.

...I still remember when they were made with cod,

After that it was haddock, then pollock, then turbot, and now just "whitefish".

Eventually it will degenerate to "mechanically separated pasteurised processed seafood product".

...after the last several weeks I'd gladly take a string of 90° - 100° days just to ease the aches & pains for a bit.

I think webbing is beginning to grow between my toes.

"seafood product"? ... that's if you're lucky, AND pay the premium price... plebs will get "mechanically separated pasteurised homogenised processed and reprocessed organic product - may contain traces of fish, tentacle, nuts, dog, or lark vomit." (>_<).</p>

My grandfather used to shoot rabbits to eat, can't imagine what squirrel would taste like - gamey I guess :)
