Okay... The only solution that seems to work... As much as I hate seams... Is to:

A - Get rid of the part of the clip thats crossed in the image... (Maybe cut off the back face) and have the UV broken up in pieces by facing. As per the UV in the current attachment.

    OR

B - (Insert here) Cos I dont know what else to do lol. I cant wield the top and bottom to the front due to the shaping. I could wield the sides to the front, excluding the inner gap.

EDIT: @Borg... I replied to your last at the bottom of the previous page. It also shows how the clips are being used. - I have UV Unwrapped successfully every thing else on this item of clothing. The clips are the only draw back.

Ya know that's about a worst case scenario with holes and topologically contrasting manifolds in the holes, needs to be split into parts, then surfaces, before the unwrap, imo.

Just out of curiosity, I guess this is a belt or strap buckle thingy, why (beautifully bevelled and rounded) geometry and not bump or displacement?

This is what it belongs to. It's actually designed for sub division. (Which Is applied in Daz, before saving it as an article of clothing.) I have tested it with the subdivision in 3ds Max... But it's best not left on while UV Mapping and when exporting to Daz.

I chose to make it a separate geometry so that the Sub D doesn't cause it all to smooth into the pants. Daz will only recognize separate material zones from Max as long as they are separate objects with separate materials applied. I dont know if there is any way around it since Daz don't accept a lot of 3ds max features :( I also leaned Daz hates objects from Max if they have stacked modifiers.

EDIT - Now that I think of it... I could cut off the outer sides of the clip and create it so the clip is made of two geometries... (Last resort I think) And remove the clip area that is hidden by the strap.

Oh I see, looking good :) Simplifying geometry as much as possible and using bump and displacement maps for detail saves on poly count as well. Don't run Max so don't know what to suggest about workflow, but in principle you should be able to import polygons grouped by surface names into Studio, don't know what you mean by separate objects, do you mean parts?

The geometry marked with red x's AND the inside surface they are attached to will unwrap separately because those are topologically different to the rest of the geometry. Simplify is what I would do.

Attached the image again to help what I'm saying...

Each individual colour used in this pic is a separate object so to speak (You could say each is a separate part)... each colour will be separate material zones in Daz, but Daz will recognize this all as 'one' object. (Eg, when you select it and move it, it is all one and will move as one) It seems to be the only way I can import the file with separate material zones and so that smoothing in daz doesn't make a mess of things.

(May be just a lack of knowledge I have in Max>Daz items lol)

    Add on to my last...

Every colour is a separate Object in 3ds Max (independent models) --- But when I send it to Daz, Daz will consider all this 'One object'

    This is getting really old.

    Complaint #2.

    More PC Weidness.

Last month when my Annual PC membership was to expire, I noticed on my account page that the end date had changed to 11/10/13. For the last several weeks still received the PC newsletter, still seeing PC prices, still had access to the Members Only forum so "OK" I thought, it must have auto renewed as I do have my card on file.

Now this Friday, I receive an email from Daz that my membership is set to expire at the end of this month. When I went to my account page there was no PC status, and the only newsletter I am subscribed to is the regular store one.

Looked through the order history and nothing about a PC renewal.

Went to my bank's site and sure enough there as no transaction to Daz for 69$ in November.

So I click on renewal link and the price I see is 99$, not 69$ even though I am still "supposedly" a PC member and have my card on file with Daz.

Now in the past I had to pay the full amount to renew once because I let it lapse beyond the "30 day grace period" but the extra 30$ was basically returned in Voucher credit so it wasn't that big of a burn. However, with the site software change in May, vouchers went the way of the carrier pigeon and I guess so does that extra 30$. Not an easy thing to deal with when on a tight budget. Posted about this in the Renewal Thread over on the members Only forum.

(I wish I had a DNI link to my system, would really help to minimise all the typos)

Lots of people got that email though they didn't need to renew - and you are still listed as a member in your profile. If you do need to renew manually you need to pay the full price and then ask for a refund on the extra $30 - there is a thread by Britney Creek on renewals in Members Only.

They are all parts of the one object then, I'm suggesting is you break the clips into parts also, so they will unwrap nicely :)

Thanks borg! I was just about to mention simplifying the geometry of the "buckle" into parts might solve the UV crisis I'm having LOL! Thanks for helping me out :) - I'd still be pulling out my hair if it wasn't for you.

    Complaint (Sort of) -

I do not believe I can apply what I see in Mental Ray (For 3DSMax / Maya) to the Cinema 4D version like I can with Vray. With but a few *slight* exceptions, I can watch 3DSMax Vray tutorials or XSI or whatever and be able to apply it all to Cinema 4D - every knob and dial. The same doesn't seem to apply to Mental Ray. At least, not as much.
*shrugs* I hopes Digital Tutors will get some videos on M4D soon o3o
('course what would I care? MR for C4D is even more expensive than Vray was XD )

Second complaint - no matter how many times I try and update my avatar (Remove Avatar, Uplaod new one, etc) it always displays my snake one and not my new gryphon avatar.

    Bah.

    Bah.

Try loading a different file format. In other words if your current avatar is a jpg, make sure the new one is a png, or vice versa. It may work.

LOL I remember when my boys were a lot younger spending hours, literally hours, making a Chocolate Hedgehog birthday cake, complete with chocolate button spines, hundreds of them and smartie eyes and nose, ready for one of their birthday parties. I made a good job of it, if I do say so myself, but no one wanted a piece of it,.

WHy....because none of the kids wanted it to be cut. Quite unusual reaction fro 7 7 8 year olds but they all refused to let the hedgehog be cut up, as it was too nice to eat.

...interesting that on my account page there is nothing listed though. Right now 99$ is a bit more than I can handle (which is what I thought the "30 day grace period" was supposed to cover) as it is the end of the current pay period. My internet service bill is also due this week as well as normal weekly expenses (transit tickets, food etc, which are already budgeted for) which is why the extra 30$ (basically the cost of my weekly transit tickets) is difficult to handle even though it will be refunded (which most likely will not happen until after the end of the week considering the time it takes to process the CS ticket and have the funds transferred back to my bank). the normal 69$ renewal fee would still make it a stretch, albeit, a more manageable one.

Again, had I not seen the revised membership expiration date of 11/10/13 on my account page along with continued service (which included receiving PC newsletters, as well as receiving a balance level alert the day afterwards from my bank) I would not have been lulled into thinking that it auto-renewed.

...I was told they can however, still can;t justify shelling out the full 99$ up front before payday on Friday due to "normal life" budget obligations.

Hopefully I will get some clarification on the phrasing in the Expiration email where it says "end of the month", as to whether it means the end of December and that I can still get the renewal price (with refund) after this coming Tuesday (which is technically the final day of the renewal "grace period").

Seems I was a victim of both one of those Magento errors when it inadvertently posted the new expiration date a month ago and coincidence with the balance level warning from my bank the next day..

At the same time we were also gearing up for our annual inventory audit at my day job (while I was still recovering form a nasty virus) so those kind of demanded a bit more immediate attention than monitoring ongoing account matters with Daz.
