A tip on hierarchical poses

K, this is pretty funny. I keep refining my knowledge of this problem. First, I thought changing the names of the figures in a group caused errors in hierarchical poses when applied. E.g., Bob is dodging John and punching Joe, save it as a hpose, change a name, apply the hpose, and suddenly Bob is dodging Joe and punching John. Then I discovered that it was down to the "seniority" of the figure; if you loaded Bob, then John, then Joe, and saved them as an hpose, then deleted john, reloaded him, and loaded the hpose, John and Joe were reversed.
Now I finally find out that it's down to seniority within the group itself; if you get this problem, you can just un-parent the figures and add them in the correct order, and things will be back to normal. I don't know why, but I find this amusing. In a good way, since it's really quick and easy to fix.

The "names" aren't names, they are labels - assuming you are "renaming" in the Scene pane. The actual name is the same for each, so they need to be taken in order. This is also true for Hierarchical Materials presets, and would presumably be the same for Hierarchical Property presets if those are added.
