Hi,
I am having an issue with importing OBJ model to Daz3d. Please take a look at the screenshot below. This is a clockwork mechanism model. The faces are deformed in different directions and some kind of awkward bevels and dents is added. The model looks fine in Blender, Hexagon etc. Only when importing to DAZ3d the problem occurs.
Could you please help? Thanks!

It looks like you modeled it using booleans. The model may look fine in your modeling program simply because it was designed for that style of modeling. When exported to another format it will lose much of the special info that the modeler used and will not look as good in other programs.
What can I do then to make it look normal in Daz3d ? Can it be "merged and flattened" to some kind of neutral format that will look the same in every 3d software (Daz3d at least) ?
You have to clean up all the little triangles and add extra edge loops where you want sharp edges.
Try this...
Surfaces > scroll down to the 'Smooth' option and turn it off or set the angle lower until the faces look good.
With all those holes and cutouts, you'll never clean it up enough to add edge loops...except at the tooth areas.
Oh man, THANK YOU !!!! Turning off the "Smooth" option made the model look perfect. I owe you 10 beers ;)
Well...there's a local microbrewery that's got some really good stuff...
