varieties of cars & trucks...

Now that we have IRAY with impressive capabilities and countless credible environment models including whole chunks of contemporary cities as Stonemason's Urban Sprawl 3, one thing is clear: there's a vacuum  in the Daz store when it comes to credible, realistic real-world cars other than maybe petipet's "Car Ranger" Land Rover SUV.... but the market is flooded with male-mid-life-crisis supercars!!   Some of those supercar coupes are even attractive--Mattymanx's topless Roadster is something even I would have purchased had it not been DazCrypted only-- but believe it or not, even in Manhattan which is full to the brim with rich males, every car on the street is ...shockingly... not a LLamaqghini or a Gallopngo or a Furrawri or a Bugatti Veyron etc. Sedans and trucks maybe aren't the sexy to everyone, but you can't walk outside in the real world without seeing them all the same. The world isn't wall-to-wall stocked with hypercars. :) In the real world, supercars are a novelty and a trophy but at Daz, they're sort of "what's for dinner" every day, day after day, in terms of new car model releases.

Where is the realistically modelled Chrysler 300 sedan?  Because you do see a *bunch* of these on the streets. Where's a Nissan Maxima in the Daz store? For that matter, where are some classic American vintage sedans or convertibles. I'd love to see a 1966 Imperial Lebaron 4 door, for example, in the daz store.  These were classy old-school land yachts with limo-style rear windows and panes of glass over the headlights, and they had an actual storage cubby hidden under the secretly hinged armrest on every door of both the 2 and 4 door Imperials.

Or a '59 Cadillac? Or a 2017 Cadillac, for that matter.  A Honda Civic 4 door.  And modern lifestyle pickup trucks, too of course.  Tundras, F-150s, Nissan Frontiers, GMC Yukons etc.  Right now at daz, pick up truck shoppers can buy the 1930 PC+ truck, or DzFire's 1970s or 1980s era Pick-em-up truck, and that's it.   But there's a whole buffet of race cars, streetlegal race cars and supercars to drape a female across. (Not that I'm objecting to pandering and objectifying, I just wish there was more equal opportunity pandering and objectifying; in other words, more scantily clad males draped across car-porn hoods and fenders.)   :)

I could go on, but the point is, supercar after supercar after supercar in the Daz market.   I'm sure someone is collecting them all, but it isn't me. I can't speak for anyone but myself of course, so anyone else who'd like to see some cars and trucks other than a never-ending stream of hypercar male-mid-life-crisis coupes, please chime in here so makers will hear us begging.

OK, yeah, there are a few non-2-door supercar models on Daz and for the most part they date to the dawn of time, daz-wise, like the Michael 2 and 3 era.  Even with subdivision to the limit of what I could afford, resource wise, I couldn't get acceptably smooth contours on the bodies and the levels of modeled detail just weren't up to snuff either on a few of these I've tried. We need modern sedans and trucks and suvs modelled now, in the Iray, higher res era.

I'm asking for nicely detailed, thoughtfully modelled sedans and convertibles that you can use in scenes that will look credible in well-made sets like Urban Sprawl 3, and with doors that open and have hinges and latch/striker hardware and the other things that make the model look realistic and real-world. I'd like models where the maker used good judgement about where and how to save polygons, so that when I render the vehicle, the roof and window and fender lines that should be smooth curves ARE smooth curves, and not segmented arcs that show, (I'm not calling out a specific maker of a relatively recent sportscoupe model here or anything) and I don't want to have to subdivide an entire figure to try to fix modelling that was too low res or blocky; I have at least 2 vehicle models in the 200 to 500k polygon range which do not require subdivision added and which render with fluid natural curves and which have nice amounts of detailing so I know this balance can be negotiated. But I'd like to have more choices in my contemporary scenes that petipet's Car Ranger or Nationale7's 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible (from Renderosity) when I want something other than a supercar.

THANKS for reading, and please consider...

There are a wide variety of cars and trucks, most free, on this sight: http://www.dmi-3d.net/

Most are in lwo format; but that can be converted to obj for  import into DAZ or can be imported into Poser and saved as pp2

This is my answer why I won't model real world vehicles, they're not mine to model and sell. :) BMW has started the ball rolling and it looks like they have a strong case. There are some modelers who continue to make and sell cars and it could come back to bite them hard.

Racing games have to get permission from car companies to use their IP. In some cases, cars may be damaged and change appearance except for one companies cars, because they refuse to have their cars depicted as anything but perfection.

Would still be nice to have cars that look like they belong to some recent decade, even if they don't precisely match any particular model.

It's pretty sad that, while on one hand, the manufacturers seem to love advertising their vehicles and happy to pay to have them in shows and movies, they would take action to inhibit people depicting their products willingly. Thanks for the info DzFire- I hadn't  yet heard about that  move by BMW group.

But as Murgatroyd says, some credibly modelled "amalgam" models that look legit but aren't 1:1 clones of a single specific model/year/make would be nice to have,  and that approach seems likely to be safe from that legal action consideration. It's frustrating to be doing scenes with people, cties and physical environments that have a credible, cohesive sense of reality to them and be stuck using vehicle models that look like cardboard cutouts or which are wrong time period and call undue attention to themselves or have only 1 or 2 viable vehicle models to use when you need a variety in a scene all of which need to be modelled at a similar level of style/realism.....

Modellers that want to design cars, design worlds, they could do exactly that... design original but real-world-style cars-- that's certainly another solution.  I'd buy such things if well done. I'd love to buy someone's idea of a 2025 sedan too, if well done.  So I'd hope that there are some kinds of options for makers despite fear of automakers.....  I've sketched/drawn custom cars (and subs, spaceships, houses and...) pretty much all my life and I wish nowadays I had the time and energy to learn to model-- I could just 'roll my own.'

I guess I'm putting it out there for Daz and makers to hear; if they won't meet the need, someone somewhere else will.

PS: DzFire, I heart your ouevre and have a fair chunk of it,  but I'm sure you can agree that your vehicles, madly maximum delightful as they are, aren't necessarily a good fit for filling streets in a straight-up contemporary, PRE-apocalyse urban scene, for example. :)

Rederosity has these low res vehicles.which look good at a distance, but yes it would be nice to have some up close vehicles as well.

Dreamland may eventually move over his 50's vehicles, they really are very nice (but not modern).

Believe me, I totally understand your point of view.  And I honestly wish there was a PA or two here who really wanted to model such vehicles.

As for myself, I have modeled some super sports cars because like me, a lot of people want one in real life and having a 3D model of one instead kinda satisfies the desire a little.

When it comes to regular everyday vehicles however, I dont model them because to me, its not exciting but boring.  Something cool like a Lamborghini (my favorite car company) I can spend some time on to make if look right but some thing like a regular car that does not interest me, it would be a push to do it day after day and not any fun at all.  The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is the ONLY Ferrari I like hence why it became the Furrawri X95.  But had I not liked the vehicle, I would not have built it cause I am no fan of Ferrari

Mattymanx, I have the old version Llamaghini and Gallopngo and really LOVED the new version ROADSTER you did, even though I don't groove on these types of cars,, simply because it was such a fabulous looking model with incredible design aspects and details.  But I did not buy it,  because... DazCrypted only product. (Thus far I have spent 0.0 dollars on DazCrypted only products though I spend 150 to 300 a month at Daz pretty steadily (for at least last year or better). )

I noticed that the most recent vehicle you recently released is DIM, DazCrypted and Manual install like your older products.   Is this a signal of a shift in your decision about your products, just a 1 time market test, or?

Do you plan to re-release that roadster with DIM and Manual install options in the future perhaps? (because that's the only one I have a yen to buy, ironically, and I won't while I'm still sitting out DazCryption.  Compliments to you, though--that roadster really made me wrestle with breaking my vow.... :)

PS: I should add, I totally understand where you're coming from Mattymanx, about only wanting to model what excites and engages you.   There's no joy in life doing things you really don't want to do!

All encrypted content will be decrypted 1 year after its release.  So for the Amenazador v2 Coupe and addon kit, they will be decrypted in July 2017 while the Roadster will be decrypted in Sept 2017.

I am trying something different with the Furrawri.

Thanks for the info, Mattymanx! I'm definitely getting that Roadster next September then - or sooner, if I change my policy.   Best wishes to you on your sales, as your products do look great.  I particularly appreciate that you remember telling details like door hinges and latching hardware etc!

    You're welcome Genaris.  :)

  • The Roadster looks like an awesome car.  I actually picked it up when it up during the anniversary sale, but after spending half an hour searching for it I realized it hadn't installed at all.  It was nowhere on my system.

Further research brought me here where I figured out that it is encrypted and so won't install via DIM.

I'm sorry, but I'm asking for a refund now.  If I can't install and use it, there is no reason to buy it.

It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to giving it a go...:(
