Daz Studio stops responding

I was using Daz Studio and I was trying to access content (like opening the wardrobe tab) and I got that spinning dial which kept spinning for a seemingly long time, and then it said that Daz Studio had stopped responding. Then windows said it would try to recover the application, but that didn't seem to work, so I ended up closing Daz Studio through the task manager. There was no other choice, you couldn't save your work or do anything. If I try to restart Daz Studio, it says something about starting CMS or something like that. But that's where it seems to stay. The only way to get Daz Studio work again was to restart the computer.

This happened yesterday and now it has happened again today.

Today I had added a light. Then I added a camera. I think I clicked on something in scene list and then I noticed that the smart content had that spining dial. And then Daz Studio stopped responding.

So does this mean there is something wrong with my data base? And if so,...how do I fix it?

(This also happened one a week or so ago.)

I know yesterday after this happened, it seemed like my antivirus updated or something. When the computer rebooted, it gave me a warning that an untrusted program that I've have had for sometime was trying to contact the internet. Also, today I started of Calkwalk and I got a warning about it. Never had those warnings before and I've been using those programs for some time. Could the antivirus program be causing some issue with DS? Do I need to tell it to allow DS to do something?

Or is it something else?

I buy tooo much content, but I'm not sure I want to keep buying stuff, if I can't even use it anymore!

    Which antivirus are you using?

Yes, this can be caused by antivirus interferrence....the slowdown could very well be the AV scanning ALL your content! (or even interferring with the operation of PostgreSQL in trying to access the database).

    My antivirus is Webroot.

I saw in the event viewer that PostgreSQL had stopped working. I suppose there is some place in Daz studio to see if it recorded an error?

Oddly...both times that Daz Studio stopped responding and I had to restart the system, it took longer than usual for the PC to restart. But maybe I can't say that. I don't usually restart. I shut down normally when I'm done.

    Try whitelisting Studio and Postgre...

I think Webroot has to whitelist an application. I saw an area where you can allow a program to have internet access. But I'm not sure what I would need to add. The Daz directory?

Webroot said to shut down Webroot and see if the problem still occurs. But I wonder how long I can safely run with my antivirus shut down. It might have taken 15-30minutes. But maybe that is contingent on whether I am browsing the Smart Content.

Or maybe I can turn on the Microsoft antivirus while Webroot is turned off. Not sure how good it is. Heard mixed things. And I'd like to think that if I am paying for the virus protection that it would be better.

I wonder if I chose to work offline, if Webroot would feel the need to scan my large database (if that is what is happening?)

What if I installed the beta, would that tell me anything? Or does the beta use the same database?

    Thanks.

I opened a ticket with both Daz Support and with Webroot.

You'd add the Studio application and the Postgre application.

The MS AV would be fine for using for testing.  (It isn't really true that you get more protection with a pay-for AV...you may get more features/controls but not really any difference in protection.)

If it is Webroot reacting to the databse, online/offline probably won't make a difference.

Well, I shut down Webroot and I tried to start the Microsoft AV, but it said that it could only be started by an Admin. But my account is an Admin, but not the Run As Administrator. But then Defender started doing a scan, but it seemed to be saying that it had limited functionality.

Anyway, I started up DAZ Studio, connected to my account, added figure, switch to the hair category, added some hair, switched to the wardrobe, chose full body and added clothing, and then applied a pose.

When Webroot was running. I could load something from the first category, but when I tried to switch to another, I got the spinning dial.

I told Webroot Tech Support that it looks like they are intefering with the operation of the database or they are scanning it for some reason when they never seemed to do that before. This just started happening on Monday when it appears there was some sort of update.

I'd go ahead and whitelist Studio, Postgre and exclude the content folders from automatic scans...there should be an option to allow it to scan the folder during a manual scan.

Thanks, mjc1016. I added Daz Studio and Postgre exes to the application list so they had internet access and that seemed to fix it.
