[SOLVED] IRay & GTX 1070 - Render Stops Instantly [SOLVED]

Hi everyone,

First time posting here :) I have been trying to make use of IRAY on my new 1070 and have been using google to keep track of the 10 series support, which in a recent changelog for version 4.9.2.70 it says it supports the 10 series, and a few threads and posters say this is the case.

Unfortunately every time I attempt a render just using my 1070 (with or without optix enabled) it fails.

I can confirm that when it is set to CPU or CPU and the GTX 1070 it will render, however the GTX 1070 alone does nothing.

It throws no error just closes the render progreess window and the output is just a black canvas. I have tested in both saved and brand new scenes

I have right now just done a test using CPU only and optix and off (two separate renders) using a blank scene with Genesis (Michael 5 base) and the default IRAY uber shader and it works fine.

I have checked other threads that offer solutions, but unfortunately nothig has helped thus far and it has been quite difficult to dig up any relevant information.

Does anyone have any information about this issue or can clarify if the 10 series is actually supported now? Would hate to still not be able to use my gfx card for rendering.

Thanks for any help!

  • Hi!

Do you use the latest Nvidia drivers, and Daz Studio BETA 4.9.3.128?

  • Hi, thanks for replying!

I have not downloaded the beta however I ran DIM and made sure I was up to date using Daz 4.9.

I also made sure I had the newested NVIDIA drivers and I can confirm I do. I tested IRAY today both before and after updating my drivers.

Does everyone use the beta to get IRAY to work? Would you recommend it? If so how do I source it as I'm not sure DIM offers it?

    Thanks again

  • You should use the beta, if you want render with iray. Thread is here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/95436/daz-studio-pro-beta-version-4-9-3-128-release-candidate-3-updated/p1

    Beta notes:

    Highlights:

    4.9.3.128 - Release Candidate 3 (November 4, 2016) *UPDATED*

NVIDIA Iray Integrated Iray 2016.3 beta build; improves support for Pascal generation (10-series) GPUs; requires CUDA 8.0

  • That is improved support comapred to the previous public beta (using 2016.2), the production build (4.9.2.70) does not support the Pascal cards at all, you are limited to CPU rendering with that.

Really! I saw confirmation on another thread it finally was integrated in the main release! Obviously I missed the bit where someone mentioned it was the changelog for the beta.

In that case I will get my hands on the beta and will report back on the results and if it works. I pretty muched stopped using Daz because I got jaded by having crappy render times from an older computer and couldn't bear to have it again on this new one.

Thanks for taking the time to help me :)

  • Unfortunately it still fails instantly. I checked to make sure I am running the beta and when I open Daz the loading splash says it's the public build.

I setup the scene: camera (looking through it), geneis male base with the Iray Uber shader, set render mode to nvidia Iray, using photorealistic and only GTX 1070 for both IRay render mods with optimisation on and off and all teh renders stop instantly. This time it is just a transparent canvas however same effect as before.

Is there any debug info or screenshots that I can supply that will better clarify the situation?

Also does the camera have to be configured in a certain way for this to work?

    @porunopal

You might consider rolling your Nvidia driver back to 372.90 (for PC). New Nvidia drivers can sometimes be troublesome. 372.90 supports the Pascal GPUs and has been reported to work without issues in the 4.9.3.128 Beta. I have been using this driver with both the BEta and the 4.9.2.70 release with good results and no problems.

    Hi FastBike,

Glad to say that was the missing piece of the puzzle, and so with rolling back my driver and using the public beta as recommended by @Richard Haseltine  and @szepdavid I was able to get a default render working!

Thanks for all your persistence guys I appreciate your help :)

    Solution:

Roll back driver to 372.90 for your 10 Series Gfx Card

Install The Daz Studio Public Build v 4.9.3.128
