How do you edit a texture in photoshop on MAC?

    They're just standard image files, usually in .jpg format (less often in .png or .tif format). What are you wanting to do with them? There are a few things to watch out for, such as Normal image maps being particularly tricky to do anything with.

    I am trying to make different design of a t-shirt for example is that a common mod?

    Yes, clothing texture replacement is very common...

    Some items come with 'templates', either in the zip with the item (common for some freebies/other stores) or as a separate download (store items here).  Those are specifically for texture creation.

    You can find which map is being used by hovering your cursor over the icon showing the map in the Surfaces tab...base/diffuse, for example.
