Saving Independent LIE Layers

Okay, maybe someone can help me with this.

I've been fiddling around with some skin shaders using the LIE (in 4.5.1.5 Pro) and was trying to save them as something I could use on top of any texture. However, if I try one layer, then fiddle around with it, decide I don't like it, and try a different layer, the layers stack and the effects are very weird. Holding down the Option key (on the Mac) and telling it to Replace Images rather than Stack doesn't work, because it removes the skin texture, and I can't figure out a way to save a "remove the LIE layer, return to default" preset the way I wanted to.

Is there a way to do this? Or do I just need to patiently go through and hand-delete my extra layers if I'm not quick enough on the "undo" button?

Reapplying the base shader will give you a fresh start - I save an "all white" mat pose in with my LIE experiments and hit it when I need to start over. Because otherwise, yeah, it composites things which gets crazy.
