How to render a wide scene?

My viewing area is 1600x900. However, the scene is more than double that width ... 3500x900. How do I widen the rendering area without increasing the height?

And, since I can't see it before hand, how do I position the scene in the middle both vertically and horizontially.

See attached. (Scale was a poor choice). i f you select Aspect Ratio as Tottalou suggests you can see what will be in camera view. You will need to zoom camera in or out as necessary to see entire scene.

  • Will it scale from the middle? From the bottom? Top? :Left? Right?

Think it will from the top left hand corner but I'm not sure.

It isn't 'scaling' anything...it's setting what the camera will see.  It's just drawing a 'box' to set what the camera sees.

Once you have set your new render dimensions, if your scene still doesn't fit you can back the camera up, or use a wide-angle (or more narrow) camera.  Of course this will affect various things such as potentially causing distortion, increasing/decreasing how much foreground is in the picture, etc.

I usually check the "Show Aspect Ratio" Box that way I can more easily see what is in the frame & it fits in the viewport

I have marked where you go to enable that for anyone that doesn't know
