Scenes and figures "reading asset" takes a very long time

[Scenes and figures  "reading asset" takes a very long time.] Let's say 2 Genesis figures with Iray skins and 1 Genesis 2 with Iray skin, even without anything else takes like 20 minutes.  Seems like something is slowing it down but I can't fgure out what it is.  At this point it takes almost as long to load a scene as it does to render.  Is there a fix for this?
