JSON interpreter warning: Unexpected string member:

No matter what I write into the Extra area of the CustomNode duf, I'm always getting the above (title) in the log, and no response back to my plugin.

What am I doing wrong? Is there any way to get a list of (key:value) pairs from the .duf file? What I'd like to have is a way to get the contents of the "extra" area dumped back to my plugin, but I'll take being able to read in a string.

EDIT: I've run the file through JSONlint and it returns as valid.

Frustrated and obviously overlooking something simple.
