Help with DAZ and the Temp Drive

DAZ has a bad habit. My install does, anyway. When I'm working on a figure, DAZ writes the image maps to the temp drive and tells itself that's where they are permanently stored. It renames them too, giving them names like "D9," so doing a search to find the actual file is not possible. When I open the scene a couple of days later, the files cannot be found, and fixing the image can take time. This happens routinely, as in, daily.
- Why on Earth is it doing this? Why can't it just leave the file locations alone? Have I somehow brought this on myself?
- More importantly, how can I prevent this from happening? I do File Save obsessively. The temp space is on a 100G SSD that is a dedicated temp drive. My install and my content are on the boot drive, in the default locations.
I'll bet this is a simple fix, but it is beyond me.
Thanks.

I am beginning to see a pattern. Maybe. I may know what's going on.

That sounds like you are making liberal use of the LIE.
Saving an asset/scene while LIE images are in use causes this, because the LIE replaces the current image with the 'merged' version in the temp folder. so that's the pointer being saved. Now you can save the LIE file BEFORE you save a scene file and that should point to saved version, instead of the temp version.

That is what happens when you use the Eyebrow eraser product from who was it? Zev0 or DraagonStorm? So don't forget to save those edited images to a default material preset, after you manually copy them from the hidden DAZ temp folder to your private Runtime/Texture/MyUser/MyEditedProduct and then you browse using Surfaces to the location where you copied & renamed the Eyebrowser Eraser Images & renamed them and applied them to your figure and when that's done you save that as both a material preset & a character preset.
Guys, you both are on the money. The eyebrow eraser is the primary cause of this! I never would have guessed that this was possible. I'll read that doc, mjc, and learm a bit more about it. Does this seem a bit counter-intuitive to you? or am I missing something?
In a way it makes sense that someone may not want to make permanent copies of either LIE or 'erased' overlays and just use it on a scene by scene basis. That's pretty much what the default behavior does...just makes temporary changes.
Saving out permanent versions of the altered textures, solves the problem...so, it's not really a bug or anything, just that the default behavior is to make temp versions. That isn't really spelled out, though.
The link I put up, basically tells you how to make the LIE changes permanent...should be similar for the eraser products, too.
I assumed this was a software malfunction. Thanks.
How did you fix your scene files? I have a bunch with this problem and I'm not sure what to do.
The other thing is that I do have a scene with a LIE and didn't save it. Yet one of those scenes loads fine. Is that the only reason why you get a long list of missing files?
Thanks
This is just a small part of the list:
