Is there way to stop auto-up date prodcut meta data for each prodcut?

What I suggested in 2012 / 2013 was:

- to make a clear difference between official DAZ3D metadata products .dsx files

and

- .dsx files created by the user so called "User created metadata product files"

-> In theory this would mean the official .dsx and exported user created .dsx are saved in two different locations.

In the CMS database itself there also needs to be a clear distinction between official and user created metadata.

-> For each product the customer could set options

A) official DAZ3D metadata is downloaded from the server -> toggle yes or no

or

B) "User created metadata product files" are never overwritten and always applied and displayed inplace of the official metadata

With DIM and Valentina it seemed to much work to implement such a system because only a few peopled seemed interested in creating their own metadata.

Nevertheless I wonder if Connect and PostgreSQL now would be better suited to find a solution?

 

Personal commentary

From 2012 to 2014 I spent 1-2 hours a day creating metadata for new and old products, assets of 3rd parties and some of my own content.

The issue was the same as described by kitakoredaz. With every official update by DAZ3D most of my own work would get overwritten. The end result was a "mixed" product with some categories set by me and some by DAZ3D. Not what I wanted.

Around 2014 I gave up this daily futile struggle because I got tired of trying to explain to DAZ3D over and over the issues with the current system that overwrites all the very hard work users spent days, weeks or months to setup.

My conclusion was that I must accept the categorisation as DAZ3D has set it up. It is not as detailed as I would wish for. There are still new products put into old categories as well.

But I simply do not anymore have the time and energy to create my own "user product metadata" for 5000+ products and keep updating them everytime an automatic update overwrites user choices.

Still, I feel with everyone who is still trying to create their own metadata. Maybe one day DAZ3D will provide a solution?

Which version of DS? This is something that has received a fair bit of attention, user categories separated from thge main categories should be more secure (you can opt to hide the original categorisation but I think you need the ebta for that to be available and to stick following an update).
