Some weird, frustrating issues all of the sudden... [SOLVED]

Recently I've been noticing some odd issues with DAZ Studio that previously weren't happening. I'm not sure what's causing them, and there was no particular event (like a reinstall) that I can point to as the starting point. The issues are:

1. New stuff not showing up in Smart Content, even after metadata was manually reimported. Smart Content from products installed more than a few weeks ago is still there.

2. Sometimes, with Genesis selected, when I load an article of clothing, it loads without fitting to Genesis. I can then manually "fit to," but previously this step wasn't required...

3. Not enough data to say for sure, but it seems like renders are taking a LOT longer all of the sudden. I had one recently that took 70 hours; previously my longest was around 24 (I had two take about that long, one of which was 2000x2000 pixels with UE2 and DOF, just to give a benchmark). The 70 hour render resulted in the image below. It had very high-quality render settings and UE2, and was the first time I rendered Gregoria Hair which I understand can take a while...but it still seemed excessively long. I just tried rendering another scene, with the settings (shading rate, etc.) turned down to default levels, but I cancelled it after it ran for an hour and was still at 0%...lots of transmapped plants in the scene, but again it seemed to be taking longer than expected. I made some changes to try to speed things up, and am trying it again. Two slow renders don't really make a trend, but since I've got other issues listed above, I thought I'd mention this potential one too. After further testing, it looks like this might be a non-issue...let's consider it solved for now.

I'm using DS 4.5.1.6 on a 64-bit machine, 3GB RAM, 1.6GHz single-core, Windows 7. My system specs aren't so great by 3D standards, but they've been good enough so far... Let me know what additional information would be helpful in diagnosing the problem and I'd be happy to provide it.

I haven't had the slowdown issue, though I know some clothing items don't load in and fit to Genesis.

However, I did just deal with an issue that may be similar to your lack of smart content. I was trying to re-organize some new DM sets, and I discovered that I couldn't edit them in the database editor. They weren't showing up in the assets pane.

After a few other false starts, I cleaned up my database (got rid of runtimes I wasn't using, cleaned up unmapped and orphaned references) and then re-imported metadata for the items that weren't showing up, and everything seems to work now.

Admittedly, I only use smart content to find poses or materials that are scattered across my various runtimes, preferring to work from the Content Library, though I'm working on getting categories organized so I can work from there instead.

Good to know...not sure why I never noticed the clothing issue before, unless it's a new issue for everyone. Update for my current render: 3% after a little over an hour. Sluggish, but at least it's moving. After this one finishes I'll try a scene without DOF or transmapped objects, at standard render settings and image size. Normally I'd expect that to finish in an hour or less.

I use Smart Content a little over half the time, I'd say. I haven't done much to customize either Smart Content or my Content Library.

My question is...since when has this been happening? Try and nail it down as close as possible...

I looked at my order history, and I think the first time I installed something that then didn't show in Smart Content was on 11/20. Since then nothing I've installed has shown there, not even when I installed things that were new for me but not new releases. A few of these are Genesis products that I'd expect to be there (S5 Elite Joanie, Buccaneer Basics, etc.). I manually reimported all metadata once, and nothing really changed...the stuff that was already showing up is still showing up; the newly installed stuff still isn't.

The slow renders are an issue of the past week only. Not sure about the clothing thing...maybe the same timeframe as the Smart Content problem.

Edit: the render sped up and finished in three hours and change. I liked the result, so I'm trying it again with higher quality settings and a larger image size...

The regular Windows update on Nov 13 had a bunch of network related updates in it, and there was another, out of sequence update on the 20th that was also network related. I'm wondering if either of those may be the source of the CMS problems (there seems to be a few of them lately...). Can you check to see which updates you recently received (if you don't have WU 'on'...then don't worry about it).

    I don't have a Win7 machine to check on....

Drag & drop has been the way for many of us to get clothing to auto conform to Genesis, if your not running the CMS or it's not working properly then that would explain it as the function was built into the CMS. I said "was" because in the current beta auto conform for Genesis is on with or without the CMS running, guess they finally got fed up with the mountain of complaints ;-)

Thanks. I'll see what I can find out, and report back. :)

Update (2013-06-10): An uninstall of the CMS and an uninstall/reinstall DAZ Studio fixed these problems for me a while back; both the Smart Content issue and the clothing fit issue are symptoms of CMS misbehaving. More info here. Thought I'd update the post in case anyone with similar problems runs across this thread...
