Render large hd images > 30.000 pixels?

Hi, I have created some characters and want each of them exported (no backgrounds) to HD png files. The problem is the pixel limit in Daz3D which is 10.000 and I need them to appear on at least 30.000 pixels height... the results will be printed on 3 meter high canvaschool and also lifelike cutouts from the front and the back of each character... I have tried to disable the 10.000 limit but Daz3D crashes everytime. So for now I have rendered the character in 3 different spots and stitch them together with Photoshop. This is a real pain, because each render has its own lightning settings and the resultsurrounding are not optimal. It's just the characters without backgrounds. I use Iray as the render engine. I have 16gb ram. I7 processor and a 970gtx nvidia. Works fine for images till 10.000 pixels. Thanks!

  • I know that Pixologic (ZBrush) use AlienSkin's Blowup to do their billboards and such.

    Umm...you'll more memory.

Depending on the scene elements, you will unlikely to be able to use your video card (yes, textures take more space than geometry...and I assume you are going all out, texture-wise...all bump/normal maps, etc)...you may squeek by, but even a single clothed figure, with hair can get close to 4 GB when using full textures for everything.  So if it's dropping to CPU, there goes a big chunk of memory.   AND on top of that, if you are trying to create 30 k x 30 k image, it's going use over 1 GB just for that image!

if you  can get by with a 10K x 30 K, create an array of stacked cameras...each one spaced/framed to do a 10k x 10k portion. (if you need 30 x 30...then 9 cameras).  That way you won't need to change lighting or anything.

Also are you rendering to viewport or direct to file?

If it's to viewport, then the memory load is probably going to be even higer.

  • Thanks for your comment. My videocard has 4 GB vram, but it seems not to be enough. Just CPU makes Daz3D crash as well.
Export to file or viewport does not make any difference. Too bad, if it just took 24 hours or so, it would be fine. But it's just not working at all.
So I am going for the multiple renders / cameras in this case. Thank god most of the artwork is just A4 and A5 flyer work ;-)

Have a look at the On 1 Resizer. I'm playing with the trial and it produces amazing quality enlargements, and very large enlargements too!

    https://www.on1.com/products/resize10/

    There's a 50 day trial version.

You may get away with a single 5000x5000 render!

  • Thanks for your link. This is ok software, but the results using a render are always better for my client.
For now I used the viewport frontview and backview and rendered the body in 3 parts using 15.000 x 12.500 pixels.
Which finished each part within the hour. In Photoshop the stitching was easy and results are a 3 meter PSD of the character.
