BACKGROUND COLOR

I've been trying to change my screen to a white background- sometimes I like to switch from grey to white- but lately, when I bring up thr Environments pane, it only changes a block in the center of the screen, rather than the entire screen. How can I change the entire color of the screen I'm working in?

The viewport colour, which doesn't render, can be set in Window>Style>Edit>Style. The background colour set in the Environment pane, which does render by default, affects only the active render area and not any parts of the viewport that are outside the aspect frame.
