Difference between Iray and IraySSS materials...

... I bought this character at another store and it comes with the options between Iray and IraySSS for skin , eyes, makup, lips, nails.

I do only see that the Iray option seems to be a lighter colour, can someone please help me out and explain?

    SSS is a form of translucence; think a pale white candle made of wax or skin that you can see veins in...  your fingernails are an example of subsurface shading also.
