Shader baker help

lulamfadalulamfada Posts: 71

I am attemping to bake some textures and I ran into a problem.  Most of the textures are baking fine but I have a couple that are not.  When I apply the texture to be bake, it looks fine.  The baked texture looks quite odd.  I was hoping someone might be able to help me understand why this is happening and any corrections I can make to fix it.  The piece I am showing a picture of is part of a larger object, but I turned off the rest so this would be able to be seen.  The baked textures on the others surfaces do work.  It is only a couple parts that do not.  The parts are quite small in comparison to the rest of the model.  I am not sure why the size of the material area would have anything to do with it, but I am new to the shader baker.

Thank you.

That looks like a tiling issue. Check that the tiling on the part in the second image is set to 1.

you beat me to it Mike

  • Thanks, but unfortunately, the tiling is set at one --that weird repeating pattern is baked into the texture. The second image should look just like the first one--but for some reason the baked texture is covered with dots and dashes instead of a single texture.

It's most likely a tiling (which you seem to have eliminated) or a UV mapping problem (the smaller parts aren't mapped/mapped correctly).  A third possibility is something with the bake settings...but usually that messes up the whole bake.

  • Thank you for your help.  I agree with mjc1016 that it probably is not a tiling problem since the original texture did not have a tiling problem.  The fact that most of the rest of the textures baked correctly seems to mean that the bake settings are not incorrect.  The UV problem occurred to me, but since the original texture went on fine and only seemed to be wrong after the bake, that seems to me that the UV Is working.  I am hoping someone else out there has seen something like this and been able to fix it.  My question is, can the UV be corrupted when it gets baked?

I'd still check the UV mapping, in something else, because a simple texture map could look 'fine' but still not be mapped correctly.
