I have a char imported as an obj model. I want to apply textures to its clothes.
But in daz model i can only select entire surface of the model.
How can i select individual surface to apply textures

Surfaces need to be defined in an app that is able to do just that. A modeling program of a UV program can help you set that up.
can you tell me how to do that in maya
Have you tried searching for tutorails on the subject omgwtfbbgxy not everyone knows about all these different programs. I am not saying Mattymanx doesn't or does know but something like uvmapping takes time to learn and searching for help via a search engine like google really can help better. I did a search using this term uv mapping in maya
Sorry, I can't help with maya.
I can tell you that there are two parts to creating the ability to use surfaces in ds.
1. You need to create your material zones. I'm not sure how that would be done in maya but in hexagon it involves selecting the faces you wish to be included in the zone and assigning a material/ shading domain to the faces. If maya is tab driven look for one that is called materials. Hope that helps.
2. You need to create a uv map for your object. If it doesn't have a uv map you will not be able to apply textures maps or tiles to your object.
Uv mapping can vary from program to program.
If you want to use maya for this you will need to google tutorials on how to do it.
If you want to do it. In a program like uv mapper classic or hexagon both free iirc then I could walk you through the hexagon process or you could check at the great videos on geekatplay which is how I learned to do it.

1) Go to Tools -> Polygon Group Editor
2) Click and drag to select facing faces until you have selected all of the necessary faces for your surface. You can use CTRL+Click to add to a selection if you need to release the mouse button at any time, or ALT+Click to remove any selected faces you don't need.
3) Right Click -> Polygon Assignment -> Create Surface from Selected. You can also add the selected polygons to an existing surface using this submenu.
4) Enter a name for the new surface.
5) You can remove the 'default' surface once emptied by opening the tool settings panel, right clicking the surface and selected delete. Ensure the 'count' is zero though, as it makes finding loose polygons a lot harder if you've deleted the surface they belong to.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for mentioning this...one question though. Can you set up material zones withing DS if an object hasn't been uv mapped? Or does it require that an object is already uv mapped?
I knew that it could be done within ds but haven't yet played with it.
thanks

You can set up surfaces just fine, but it might not look right when applying materials. Daz still uses the mesh's initial UV setup, so if they're poorly done (or not done at all) you can get undesired results.
So it would be best to uv map first...or otherwise you wouldn't be able to used seamless textures or texture maps on it.
