MDL v RSL materials options? What is the difference?

in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

Hi  - I see some materials - like pony tail ties in hair - have MDL or RSL options. Should I be using one over the other if I am using Iray?  thank you

    For iray you want to use the MDL. RSL is for 3Delight.

    MDL = Material Definition Language, as developed by nVidia for their Iray render engine

    RSL = Renderman Somethingmumblemumblemumble Language (S for Shader?), with Renerman being the render engien that 3Delight is compatible with.
