No Option for GPU Rendering?

Hi.

I hope someone can help me figure this out. I'm running Daz Studio 4.9 Pro on my iMac. Renders tend to be on the slow side, but I recently updated to the maximum amount of memory possible for my iMac. I had assumed that this would also speed up render time a bit, but there's been no noticeable difference. Then I realized that there was no GPU rendering happening. I've got an NVIDIA card, so shouldn't GPU be an option? When I look under Advanced Render Settings, the only option there is CPU.  Am I looking in the wrong place? I've also updated my CUDA driver as far as I can for the system I'm running.

Attached are some specs that might be helpful.

  • I believe you need to isntall CUDA 8 from nVidia - the main driver version also looks low, if the number follows the Windoes numbering (372.x is the minimum).

Thanks, Richard. That's the problem. CUDA 8 and any more recent main drivers are incompatible with my system. They're made for OSX 10.11 and 10.12, and I'm running 10.9.5. I hesitate to update my OSX, as some of the other software I run for work has been known to slow down and glitch on 10.11 and up. As far as I know, there is no further CUDA update that works with 10.9. But Daz Studio Iray works on my system, so shoudn't GPU be available within the parameters of what I have?

  • CUDA is used only in hardware (GPU) rendering, so you can do CPU rendering without the newer versions of CUDA and the drivers.
