Where Does DAZ Studio Hide Its Content Directory?

I am desperately trying to unzip a third party morph to DAZ Studio's content directory.

You know. So I can use it.

The problem is I can not for the life of me find the location of the Content directory.

I tried doing a search for "content" in Windows Explorer, and it turns out nearly every game and graphics program installed on my machine has at least one folder named "content", and I get a list of hundred of folders, plus any file with "content" as part of its name. I honestly do not want to spend the next two weeks opening every one of these files to see which one is the right one.

Searching for "DAZ 3D" does no better. Apparently, there are hundreds of "DAZ 3D" folders (probably inside zip files) to sift through as well.

Can somebody tell me where DAZ Studio's content file is hidden?

Is it under C:\program files?

Is it under users\(my name)\?

I know it is somewhere.  I just need to know where.

If you have any idea where I am supposed to look I would really appreciate it

{{EDIT: Argh! After more than an hour of fruitless searching, I finally broke down and made this post. Then, in accordance with Murphy's law, found what I was looking for immediately after making it.

It figures.}

This confuses a lot of people; "the content directory" is not "the folder named Content", it's "the folder containing your content files". The actual folder name and location is whatever's defined in the Content Directory Manager dialog — there is no One True Name that must not be changed.

Note that the settings for DAZ|Studio Format and Poser Format locations must be the same, and there is a separate Connect setting (if you use Connect to install your content instead of the Install Manager).

You can find out exactly where your Content Library is located by selecting Edit>Preferences. Then click the Content tab. At the bottom of that page, click on Content Directory Manager. It will show you the location of your content libraries. I have changed mine from the default locations, so your locations will undoubtedly be different than mine.

  • barbult, thxs for your help on this.  a few questions. please and thxs.  seems you might be using a 2nd HD (D:).  I too would do same.  ...unless I screw this up.  I have not actually installed any of the 3rd party content I've been downloading as freebies and Renderosity purchases.  ...and frankly, I haven't been paying close attention as to whether I've been getting Poser formats or Daz3D. That's probably another bag of issues altogether, so let's skip that for now.   I also need/want to create a separate place for 3rd party content, perhaps several, named by source/provider.    But need to better understand the steps.

Noticed you renamed yours as My DIM Library on this 2nd HD, and eliminated the Users/User and Users/Public issues altogether.   Guess that means both content and your personally saved Scenes and Renders go in the same places, as Daz default wanted to put those into Users/User subdirectories.... or have you pointed those towards new subdirectories of your own creation as well?

Do you have other subdirectories not visible for content that you installed manually?    Obviously you can't use the DIM for those.... no?

(Noticed you changed a small default setting and added "Show File Extensions".  Is that the means you use to separate Poser from Daz formats visually when loading instead of going to separate subdirectories...? )

Daz defaults to using the same path for Poser formats.  ....but I didn't realize I was getting Poser formats from Daz purchased Items.  Is that just my ignorance regarding Daz store product formats?

Did you actually start out with installs to the DazStudio defaults on C:/    ....and then move them later?   Or did you reinstall it all from your personal Daz account Product Library once you had your new HD set and ready to use...?   Can files actually be moved once installed?  (I have little or no scenes or renders saved, as I am almost completely new to using the software.    ...just trying to get set up.

Once your new D:/ content directory was defined, you simply matched the changes in your DIM gear for both Downloads and Installs, and all went well?

so many related issues for my little brain to sort....
