Having trouble moving library to new hard drive

I have my content library on an external hard drive (call it OldDrive) and wanted to move my content library to a new external hard drive (call it NewDrive). I use a Mac. Here’s what I did:

1. I copied all of the files from OldDrive to NewDrive, so that the paths are exactly the same except for the name of the drive, e.g., after the copy /Volumes/OldDrive/App Support/Daz/ and /Volumes/NewDrive/App Support/Daz are identical.

2. I launched DS, opened the Preferences, and set the CMS Cluster Directory to /Volumes/NewDrive/App Support/Daz/cms.

3. I opened the Content Directory Manager and set the paths to the new drive, such as /Volumes/OldDrive/App Support/Daz/Studio/My Library changing to /Volumes/NewDrive/App Support/Studio/My Library and so on.

4. I went to Content DB Manager, reset the database, and re-imported metadata.

At this point, everything is working as expected in DAZ Studio, or whatever isn’t working as expected can be attributed to metadata issues.

5. I opened DIM, went to Settings, and changed the My Library path on the Installation tab. Then I refreshed and DIM shows 1557 products to be installed and 0 already installed … even though I can see and use these files in DS.

6. As an experiment, I downloaded one product (3D Bison, though it doesn’t really matter) and the install count changed to 1. But when I quit and relaunched DIM, it was back to showing that the product wasn’t installed, and the install count was back to 0.

Anybody able to tell me what’s wrong here or how to fix it?

  • Where was the Manifests folder? If DIM can't find that it won't knoww hat is installed - unfortunately I believe the manifest files store absolute paths so in order for updates to work you'd need to batch edit them to replace the old drive name with the new (working on copies, of course).
