Spotted skin when merging scenes

When I load multiple characters using 'scene merge', it sometimes renders with one of the characters having a dirty spotted skin effect.  I've tried to fix this by re-applying the skin texture to the affected character, but that doesn't work.  Sometimes I can fix it by deleting the character completely (saving their pose first) and reloading everything from the beginning (with the other character still loaded), but in this case even that didn't work.  This only happens with 3delight.  To render the scene I'd created I had to use iray, but I lost all the good lighting I'd set up with the 3delight lamps and it didn't look the way I wanted it.  If anyone has a solution to this I'd love to hear it as this problem has bugged me for years.  Attached is an example.

  • It's because the two characters have the saem GroupID setting in their skin shaders - you can fix it by seelcting all the surfaces on the character that have the saem GroupID value (right-click on a skin area with the Surface Selection tol and from the menu click Select Surfaces with the Value of.., then select GroupID from the list) then in the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane change the value (to anything that isn't already used, it's just an identifier so the actual value doesn't matter).

  • Thanks Richard, worked like a charm!  I notice that if you change the group ID of all the surfaces you get this red glow around the mouth (which is what I did a long time ago).  Changing the group ID of only the affected surfaces does the trick.  Thanks heaps for that.

  • GroupID tells the shder to treat all the surfaces as part of the same mesh, so that's why you don't want to include the teeth as it adds scattering that shouldn't be there.
