Stereotypical Japanese Twintail hairstyle

Would any hair-figure artist care to produce a stereotypical Japanese Twintail hair style with high tails and square cut bangs?

I know there are some generic twintail or pigtail hair styles available, but I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for yet. If you know of any that fit the bill, please give a link.

This is what I'm looking for:

1) tails should be high on the side of the head with variable length morphs: see picture 1 for example

2) tail to head connection should be realistic, not just a tail stuck on to the side of the head (ability to change position where tail connects to head would be amazing but I doubt it would be possible and maintain realistic appearance): see picture 2 for example

 3) tails should have bones as well as morphs so that the tails can be positioned independently in any head position, even hanging upside down.

4) the tails should be at least straight with morphs to change thickness/shape, but morphs to introduce curls or waves would be great too for versatility.

5) square cut front bang. Bang length, shape and parting morphs would be a great addition providing great versatility: see pictures 1, 2, 3 and 4 as examples

6) If there are side bangs (See picture 5) then these should have bones and morphs too, just like the tails. Preferably any side tails should be "hideable".

7) Alternative styles at the back would be great, but at least a simple parting style: see picture 6 as example.

8) Realistic hair textures. Colours: Black (of course) but also brown, red, blonde, even platinum (Japanese girls also dye their hair, and would be useful for non-Japanese characters).

9) Bows or other ties for the tails would be a nice addition, but should be either separate or hideable. See pictures 3 and 7 for example.

Such a hair style would be useful for Anime and Manga style but also Schoolgirls and Cosplay as well as just everyday images (Japanese girls and women particularly love the Twintail style.)

I realise that this is a significant request with very specific parameters, but I believe that a hair figure with such versatility would sell very well.

  • Somethhing similar to this one? http://www.daz3d.com/josie-tails-hair-for-genesis-2-female-s

I know it doesn't have the bangs, but it's a good example of what's already in the store.

ho I love that hair http://www.daz3d.com/josie-tails-hair-for-genesis-2-female-s

but it has some slight issues, like little distorsion with some common genesis 2 shapes.

I would love a newer take on that hair, improve geometry and a G3F version and morphs for more shapes.

    Hi daywalker,

Thanks for the link. I decided not to get that hair set due to the funky curly tails. I'm really looking for tails with straight hair, though a bit of curl or wave is not a bad thing especially if it can be dialed in/out as a morph. In the Josie tails, the curl is definitely a main part of the style; great for some but not what I'm looking for. :)

Oomu, in my first post I didn't say anything about which figure version the hair should be for as in principle it should not matter too much for me as I usually just parent the hair to the head rather than conform. However you are right, in general newer versions (eg made for G3f) have improved geometry, more morphs, better textures etc. I do use g3f most often because it has the best joints and so gives the best poses (IMO). In practice I usually find that conforming the hair piece causes problems if the head size or shape is not exactly g3f standard. Sometimes vendors go to a lot of effort to make fit morphs for all sorts of different standard head shapes. To be honest I'd rather that they put "head adjustment" morphs on the hair instead. It seems my characters often have non-standard shaped/sized heads lol.

You know, I'm still waiting for a g3f version of Penny hair by Lady Littlefox. That is a really fun hair style, but it's showing it's age :)

This one, although they are a little low, but morphs would move them up. Not ideally as the was the hair is made, but it might work

    EDIT

Did these morphs, all three are basically the same, with each one morphing more; the third might be most suitable, but not great; I haven't the time to spend tweaking the cloth; and the hair around the ears - which morph 2 and 3 move, is odd.

Morphs for G2 and G3, never attempted for V4.

I'll leave it up for a couple of days, if more interest I could upload to Deviant Art.

Seem to recall Pretty3D having something for sale recently, that might be close.

The best Japanese hair is usually made by Japanese creators. :)

You will probably have to go off-site to find something like that.  Maybe the ShareCG site might have something Japanses-style.

Thanks nicstt. I'll have a look at those morphs. I do have the Sunny Tails hair by SWAM.

I fear you may be right samurle. I still hold out hope though that one of our skilled hair creators will take up the challenge.

Unfortunately ShareCG came up blank. There is a nice twintail hair here at the DAZ3d shop (Twin Tails by Aeon Soul). You will have to make sure you use a space between Twin and tails or the shop search engine won't find it. (come on DAZ3d get a decent search engine installed!) Also the Sora hair is quite close. I have both. Unfortunately, I'm looking for the hair to have both bones and bangs!

Yeah, a lot of the Japanese-esque styles on the Daz Store seem to go into the hyper futuristic stratosphere, like Aiko 7.  Sometimes it's hard to find sensible products.

I found this image over at deviant art. Hitomi by SystemaRose. This is a nice hairstyle, I wish it were available somewhere.

  • That might be a dead end, so to speak.  I think they're ripping 3D models from the Dead or Alive game series, so they can render out their own artwork.

One of my posts (2nd) on this page shows a pretty 3D hair I tweaked to what you were asking; I hadn't realised I had it, as not looked at G2 hair in a year or so, but thinking there also might be a G3 version.

Hi Nicstt, I think the hair you are refering to is Schoolgirl Hair by Pretty3D. There is indeed a g3f version, which I have... boy do I have a lot of hair figures. It's a nice hair though the tails are a bit wild for my purpose. There is one bone in each tail allowing the tail to be swung forward, backward and sideways from just below the knot which is nice, but not enough for detailed posing, like say the character holding one tail up at the center (as an example). There are a bunch of morphs in the Schoolgirl Hair but again they are not so helpful for fine posing, plus they are not always fully independent of the other tail..... and no square bangs. I guess Pretty3D was not aiming for a Japanese/Asian twintail architype.

I did quite a search of the internet for Japanese/Asian twintail hair figures and found little. As Samurle said, the ones I could find being used in pics are indeed apparently ripoffs from games or hand drawn and not 3d models.

There really does appear to be a hole in the market for a versatile Japanese/Asian style Twintail Hair figure.

I wonder if anyone knows how much it would cost to commission a good hair figure artist to produce the Twintail figure of my dreams? Maybe I could then become a PA myself and sell it to DAZ3d to recoup the cost and make a profit. Now that is a funny idea especially in light of certain recent comments I made in other threads (inside joke maybe? Sorry.). Seriously though... it might be an option... or how about Crowd Funding? How much would it cost for one Hair Figure (with loads of features)?

Hi Kerya, thanks for the links. Indeed Jerry hair is quite close. The tails have bones... yay. The side bangs have morphs...woohoo. The front bang... alas, no square cut morph. The tails also have some morphs which allow the size shape to be changed.... I must have a look at Jerry Hair again, I've had it in my library for some time.

Swirly Pigtails (yep got that one too), seems to be similar to Penny Hair. Unfortunately the tails need several more bones and the tail morphs do not seem to act independantly which makes for limited posing possibilities. Still, a fun Hair item.

The first freebie (nm_FLtwintail) is actually quite good, a bit low rez, but not bad for a freebie. The tails have bones. The side bangs have some morphs. Unfortunately, no square front bang. BTW if you do install it in DS, you will need to type the full name into the search engine to find it! At least I did!

The second freebie (Pigtails) not bad for a freebie, the tails need one or two more bones and I could not find any morphs. Alas, no square front bang. Both freebies lack good textures.

    Picky aren't I :)

Here are some more cute twintail styles with square front bangs. Have fun!
