DAZ Connect content not in my library

So I bought three items and then found they were DAZ Connect only. So, I downloaded through Connect and now they are not in my content library. But they are downloaded. So where did they go?

Then I searched for them and found them in a directory that I did not specify. along with a few other things that I had missed: easiest option, add the directory. Apparently, you can't do that.

Why do they not appear in my content library? Using them is nigh on impossible.

If you wish to protect your product that's fine. I've seen it offered for free and I don't agree with that. But you can't make it so difficult for paying customers.

The content library works better for me and I would like to see all the content I've paid for in it.

  • They're not in your Content Library because they're Connect items — if you look in the Content Directory Management dialog settings, there are the old defaults for DAZ|Studio and Poser Format content locations, "other formats" and now a new Connect setting. This is where all your Connect-installed files end up. DAZ intended it to be as easy, if not easier, to use than the Smart Content system, but you're not the first one to prove that idea less than accurate.

Note that you can't "add the directory" because that location is already set for Connect, and you can only have one Connect location at a time.

Where exactly were you looking in the Content Library tab? Connect items won't appear in the D|S Formats section, but they should be in the Products section.

You can add short cuts from the Smart Content tab to your Daz Format content library.

    1. Have the Smart Content and Content Library tabs on separate panes.  See picture with Hip Hop Outfit for Genesis 3 Male(s).
    2. Manually create folders for the product in your Daz Format content library.
    3. Select/shift select icons from the Smart Content tab and drag them over to your FOLDERS created in Step 2 (NOT THE FOLDER WINDOW) in the Daz Format content library.

If Poser Format content can been seen on the Smart Content tab, you can even add Poser Format content to your Daz Studio Content Library.

They are in the Content Library pane; see the "Virtual Folders in Content Library" section @ http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/new_features/start#better_content_management.

As immediate children of the DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats top-level containers, in the Content Library pane, will be an item named "Daz Connect." Whether or not the item appears under either top-level container depends on the type of content installed via Daz Connect. This item is the root of a "Virtual Folder" hierarchy that serves to aggregate all of the files of all products installed via Daz Connect.

While you can only have one designated "Daz Connect Data" directory at a time, any of the mapped native directories can contain the ./data/cloud/... directory structure that Daz Connect uses and the files will be found; the Content Directory Manager will even offer to map the folder for you if you choose to change the directory in order to keep existing content working. The same caveats that apply to ALL mapped directories also applies here; the first file found as the mapped directories are iterated over is the file used, so avoid duplicating files or you'll make a confusing mess for yourself.

I have similar problem and still unresolved, I bought the two hd characters alone from the hip hop bundle and they need manual daz connect installation but seems smart content doesn't detect it. What I am doing wrong? I put the 4 files (.se and .sep)  into daz library connect folder, tried into cloud folder too, nothing happens.

Anyone can help me out? It's very frustrating, reading the daz forums I followed instructions and tried many folders, but the files still undetected

I did reply to your other post, but sicne this one has more information:

the two download files for each product go in \Data\Cloud\Install - put copies there if you want to keep the packages for future use as they will be deleted from the Install folder. Then from the Smart Content option menu select Isntall Offline Packages. This does assume that DS has been allowed to connect to Daz at least once to authenticate itself.

  • They are, at least partially, installed - though they are showing as having updates. Exactly which version of DS is this - I had a lot of trouble with soem of the later Public Betas being unable to fully download large files (such as HD morphs) before timing out, but not in a non-beta version.

Is it possible to change the directory D|S uses for Connect items? I have all my content on a seperate drive specifically to not clutter my C drive so I don't really want to start filling it again. Thanks for the help btw.

Thanks for this, if all else fails this may be the best option for me to stick with the old Content Library format as everything would appear in the one directory rather than switching around all the time to find everything.

Okay, a quick glance at this will not do, but it also looks helpfull. Again though, I would wish that I could map the directory that DAZ uses to store the files so that my C drive is not used.

Thanks for the assistance people. :-)

I think I have the last: 4.9.3.166 Pro Edition (64 bits)

Yes, all you need to do is open the Connect setting in the Content Directory Manager and click on the Edit button halfway down the left hand side. It's perfectly OK to change the setting, what you can't do is have two or more settings, like you can with the D|S and Poser Formats.

Note that if you already have Connect items installed, changing the CDM setting will not move the files. It's a lot less complicated if you change the setting before beginning to install dozensandhundredsandthousands of Connect stuff.

Assuming you are connected, try right-clicking on them and select Install Updates. You can also get a partial install if DS was closed while the items were still downloading, certainly for me 4.9.3.166 has fixed the impossible to finish downloading issue..

Thanks, finally I decided to reset data and saved my user content, and now still downloading all my daz content with daz connect, and the encrypted did download and install without problem.   So bad I have almost like 1000 bundles and products downloading from daz.. at least I will get rid of bugs.

I actually did laugh out loud there. Everything is a lot less complicated if you know how to do it before you start.

As I understand it, I can uninstall Connect Content quite easily (one of its advatages?), then change the directory and re-install. I don't have much Connect content, for obvious reasons, so not too much of a problem.

Thanks again for your prompt response.

There's actually a valid gotcha reason for that. Unlike the old-style manual installation and using the Content Library tab, the content database that drives Smart Content and a few other things, including Connect installation, uses absolute folder locations for the content files. This means that simply moving installed content folders without updating the database pointers leaves the database looking in the wrong place when you try to load anything into your scene. It's fixable, but can be a major pain in the anatomy if you didn't realise you sometimes need to be a database admin to use D|S.

This, again, is incorrect. The asset paths are NOT stored absolute. 4.9.x changed the structure of the database and the data stored within it.

Ah, OK — first I've heard of this.

I had the same issue with the offline installation...it didn't work for me, either.  I did exactly what it says here: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207812473-How-do-I-install-Daz-Connect-products-using-Offline-Packages-
But I figured a simple way around for my case.

    Online pc - DazInstallManager1.1.0 installed
    1. Download whatever u need by "DazInstallManager".
    2. Go to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads" and copy all the files(.dsx and .zip...) u just downloaded to an external storage.
    * sorry I don't know the path for mac.

    Offline pc - DazStudio4.10, DazInstallManager1.1.0 installed
    3. Paste all the files to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads" on your offline pc(the same directory).
    4. Start "DazInstallManager" and check on "Work Offine" then click "Start".
    5. You'll see the downloaded files there on "Ready to Install" tab. And click "Install" on the right.
    6. After finishing installations, start DazStudio and click "Start cmc" on SmartContent tab. That's it. it worked for me.
not really sure the name of the button, something like "Start cmc" or "Start cmd" whatever but I'm pretty sure it was a green button.

*ALSO I don't know if this could cause any serious problems but it's working fine so far.
Hope this could help with the same issue or give you another idea to solve it.
