is there a trick/tool to make clothes look ripped / torn?

Hello - is there a way to make a dress for Genesis 3 look like it's been torn/ripped. In the scene I'm working on the character is getting sort of attacked and I want the dress to be ripped and torn. Any ideas/suggestions? thanks in advance for any assitance!

copy the texture(s) and use them to make cutout opacity maps and then put those cutout opacity makes in the coutout opacity slot in the Surfaces tab for the surfaces on the various articles of clothing you what to look raggedy, cut.

  • Thanks, I'm a newbie at this, is copying the texture and making cutout opacity masks something I do in DS?  Or do I need to use something like photoshop?

You can use Gimp or photoshop but you'll need to do something like trace edges or change to black and white or grey scale as a starting point to create cuts in the clothing. For frizzy tattered ends like cutoffs (like jean shorts) it's not going to look the most realistic.

  • Thanks - I'll check it out, i appreciate the suggestion
