I've just finished work on a new shader that I think a few of you will be excited about.  The Iray Toon Shader brings some new features to Iray that will help you with rendering cartoon styles and other art mediums like sketch and print.

http://www.daz3d.com/sketchy-toon-edge-and-art-style-shaders-for-iray

This set contains a suite of presets built around a custom art style shader for Iray, designed to introduce a wide range of non-photorealistic effects to your renders!  Everything from magna and old school print, anime and rough sketching is possible with more than 330 presets and modifiers available.  Quickly add thick outlines to the outside edges of your models then blend things together with some cross hatching.  Two layers of outline add versitility you can use to produce numerous unique multi-tone cell shaded illustrations.

Yes!  Sorry, I forgot to include the product feature list.  I've added it to the original post.

  • Download works for me in Firefox (51.01)

  • I changed the link a bit so hopefully it now works for those it didnt.

My list of reasons to use 3dl continues to dwindle...

Nope.  That's now a seriously dead link.  Doesn't work with Firefox, doesn't work with Internet explorer, doesn't work with Chrome.  Is your server dead or overloaded?

edit - actually, my android phone can get to your server, but the file is apparently corrupted.

  • Looks awesome.

Link doesn't work for me either. Tried Chrome and Opera and get an error saying the DNS address could not be found

  • Ok, I replaced the link with one on Dropbox which SHOULD be working.

  • Do you need to light the scene any differently than a typical Iray render?

Ok, I don't buy many shaders because I can usually make what I want, but this looks like an absolute must-have. Great job! :D

  • Do you need to light the scene any differently than a typical Iray render?

Not really.  Most of the promos were rendered using the included neutral HDRIs, which in a couple cases were accompanied by a single mesh light.  I did this just to make it look most like it was done on paper.  The effects will show up the same in any lighting situation though.  In my opinion the best toon effects come from using a single bright light to produce hard shadows and a low brightness neutral HDRI for fill but you can get good results with other lighting.  There's some examples here of the Star illustration using only a few of my HDRIs for lighting.

Wow that's great.  Not having to learn to use some special light setup really makes this appealing.

This looks like it might be pretty cool. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of this. Looks like it could be a great product.

  • Looks very, very cool!!!

  • YES! FINALLY!

  • I think these belong in my Runtime.

  • That third render is exactly the kind of style I'm looking for. Main color render, and this on top.

With this shader set and the Outline Script for Studio, this  is going to help me get the graphic look I'm going for.

How fast is the render? And how fast will it be in the store?

Excuse me while I step into the future and get this now :)

  • Looks awesome!

Is this going to keep the existing textures? Some of the previous cartoon-like shaders required that we add the textures back one by one after applying the shader.

What about render speeds in comparison with normal IRAY?

I downloaded the pdf okay but it won't open in acrobat reader.

  • How soon will this be available?

I already have 2 other shaders and this will make a very welcome third!

    * This is just wrong on so many levels.
