Metadata issue when saving a figure to DUF format in DSPro4.5

Just recently, I started having problems with the metadata when I try to save a DUF for a figure or prop. It used to give me a whole massive list of categories for each of the 4 items listed. Now there are NO (zero) options for any of them.
I'm talking about under meta data:
Set content type
Set category
Set compatibility base
Set compatible with
I tried updating to the latest service release of DS Pro 4.5 but it's still doing the same thing.
Without this working, I can't save a duf and therefore can't output Genesis content for use in Poser. Help! Previously, I had been chugging along, having converted over 150-200 items from old figures (mainly V4) to Genesis via autofit and then saving as duf & creating Poser companion files. Now it won't let me save the meta data at all.
Any ideas?

That list is part of the CMS, so check it's running and that it can talk to DS4.
I normally use Poser and am fairly dense when it comes to D|S, so how do I check to see if it's running?
The "bar" down the lefthand side of D|S is not populated with anything but the bar down the right side is. Am I making sense?

Nope, Task Manager only shows DAZ Studio as being open (among other unrelated stuff). Shouldn't CMS open with DAZ Studio? How do I get it to open otherwise?
With DS closed, go to Start Menu > Programs > DAZ 3D > DAZ Content Management Service > Start CMS
OK, I did that.
I start CMS (as fixmypcmike says.
It shows up in Windows Task Manager as running.
Then I open DS Pro 4.5.
CMS is no longer running.
It's as if merely opening DS closes CMS.
OK, then with DS open, I tried opening CMS again.
Still no content on the left "Smart Content" panel, even when I refresh.
If I load and then save an article of clothing as a DUF file, now the *first* option has a menu but the rest don't (example: I can't choose Genesis as the compatible figure).
Any ideas?
If the service is dying when DS is opening there should be a log entry saying what's going on (hopefully)...so look in DS under Help >Troubleshooting >View Log...look for a CMS error. Post it here...
Then, in the folder the CMS executable is installed in, there is another folder called 'vlogs'....clear that folder out and then, from both DS and the CMS not running, manually start the CMS and then DS. Then post that log....or just any errors listed in it.

The first two aren't important...the second one is saying that the plugin for a 3D mouse isn't intialized, because you don't have 3D mouse connected. The first...it's because something is trying to do something that's already been done.
Now the third, coupled with the second list of errors...yes, definitely a messed up database, at the very least. The error above probably caused the rest. The 'stream read error' pretty much means something is interfering with the database server...
At this point, it's hard to say whether it's Windows or you AV, but something external to the database server is most likely the cause...
What AV are your running?
Immunet Protect & Spyware Doctor. But both of those were running when DS used to work properly. It worked well for months before screwing up.
Are either one set for auto updating (other than malware definition files...main program updates)?
Can you pin it down to an 'exact' when...for when it quit?
One quick test, unplug from the internet (turn off your router/etc) and disable them...then try to start the CMS. If it runs when they are off, then one of them is to blame. Then repeat, with just one shut off...
If it happened right around Christmas, then we can factor a Windows update into the process, too...(third Tuesday of the month is the 'regular' update day...).
DS and the CMS don't update themselves, so you look at things that usually do...AV and OS. Because, the stopping of the service is NOT something that will just happen out of the blue...corruption of the database, yeah that can happen, but it often gets corrupted because the server has been killed, while something was being written to it.
In that link that was posted earlier, I think there is a method listed for removing the database. You may have to go that route, because right now there's two problems...something killing the server and the database is corrupted (maybe...but the chances of it not being corrupted are slim).
