3-D Effects in Daz?
When I first grabbed Ron's Products, http://www.daz3d.com/deviney I thought they were for Daz.
Was quite suprised when I saw they were for Photoshop and really had nothing to do with Daz. lol.
Still, I love them and him too. lol
So, I noticed there seems to be no products for doing effects in Daz.
--- Maybe a 3-D lightning strike that would emit light and reflect off all the close surfaces is a little too much to imagine.
--- Or particles you can fly the camera through....
---- Droplets or blood sprays.....
I'm thinking of POST for everything, but I was considering animation and having real particles that stay in place when the camera moves.
My best bet, as I think I have read on this forum, is to create an empty plane (like a backdrop) and Import or add the .png file/artwork to that flat surface.
If I wanted to do a 360 render, I would think, soon as you changed views, the blood or any effect would disappear because it's 2-D.
I'm thinking about sparks flying off of a sword clash. Or the dragon's breath/flame.

This looks like it,
http://www.daz3d.com/jepe-s-z-bundle
But it says 2-D although it seems to have an emitter, which I guess would SEND LIGHT into your scene and effect/affect all the other objects.
Anyone know how these would work if I moved the camera about the scene?

Hi avxp, If the effect you create is on a 2d plane and you move the camera relative to that plane then there will be some "change of view". How much change depends on how much you move the camera and how far the camera is from the plane. So if you can arrange for not too much change of angle (relative to the plane) and hopefully have a bit of distance between the camera and the plane, then you may well get the effect you want without anyone noticing that the effect is not a real 3d object. This trick is used sometimes for making mist or smoke or flame which is fairly believeable and low on computer resource requirements.
So....would you get product like jepe-s-z (I assume Z-plane) bundle, or create .png files in something like photoshop and/or use brushes and create a 2-D object and add the image file to it?
I guess is the question....buy/find something (else) or do it yourself?
Probably pretty dumb to ask.
A quick gallery search shows how people can use Jepes Platez: http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/?q=jepe´s+platez&x=0&y=0
The Jepes Platez are just flat planes with texture and opacity map. You can load these in your 3D-Scene. If you move your camera you have to adjust the planes orientation to get the desired effect.
In my 3D renders I have used Jepes Platez for Special Effects or just as Colorful Background Addition. But they are also very useful if you are familiar with postwork. You can render just the effects and combine it with any image in Photoshop, Gimp etc.
In this render Jepes Platez are used both ways. The fire is rendered in DAZ Studio and on top of it postworked in Gimp.
But yes, if you know how to do it, you can use Rons Brushes in Photoshop/Gimp to create your own texture and opacity maps. Put it on a primitive plane in DAZ Studio and render.
Thanks for your input.
Incredible pose and render. Well done, indeed.
Thank you. But the render looks only good in front view. In side view the fire effect is gone.
By the way @Linwelly made a tutorial for atmospheric effects: http://download.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1654176/#Comment_1654176
If you put a colorful texture in the diffuse channel as addition, it is pretty much the same principle how the Jepes Platez work.
Thanks for the mention, Mike!
Yes you can use this system for a lot of different things Here is a really old one, where I made the fairy dust in Gimp and added the map to a plane behind the fairy. If you look through my gallery you might find a lot of self made maps incorporated in the render. If you want it more glowing you can make is an emissive surface for Iray, in 3Delight dial up the Ambient channel (even past the parameter settings)
but the PA's use the system as well: like this magic effect comwing with Isabis (http://www.daz3d.com/mrl-isabis) are several planes crossed into each other, so you get a more 3dimensional effect
And KindredArts Iray rain (http://www.daz3d.com/iray-rain) has a huge system of crossing planes ( Image is not according to TOS so here is a link to my dA gallery. http://linwelly.deviantart.com/art/Trapped-654334167
for you fly by animation with particles or droplets there is SimTenero Particle physics http://www.daz3d.com/simtenero-particle-physics-core-engine , which must be awesome but I am afraid is quite the resource hog, but as I don't own that I can't really say.
Blood spray and droples : try Sickleyields rigged water: http://www.daz3d.com/rigged-water-iray or the Liquid Pack http://www.daz3d.com/liquid-pack by JoLab1985: one example:
Oh my. You guys have given me plenty to research thank you!
Your trapped profile on Deviant isn't coming up. And a search for Trapped gave me images with trapped, but no artists.
oops, thans for the hint, well my profile is is my signature, and I hope this links is working http://linwelly.deviantart.com/art/Trapped-654334167
yes it does, corrected in the op
Followed and commented....thanks.
Not a dumb question at all. It just depends what you want. If you see a commercial product that provides what you want and the cost to you is OK then go ahead and benefit from the skills of the artist who made the product. On the other hand you may say " I can do that! ". If you have the time and/or want to learn from the experience of making something yourself then ... have a go yourself.. it can be very rewarding. Or it may be that you can't find exactly what you want, so you have to do it yourself. For example if I wanted generic smoke or mist i might use a commercial product to save time, but if I wanted a specific swirl of smoke or the suggestion of a face in the smoke then I'd have to make it myself.
The important thing is to have fun and not get bogged down in the boring stuff.... unless you like that, hehe.
