Merchant Resource Question

Most merchant resources state something like this "See important notes on usage permissions and restrictions on the product readme page"  I would like to know what the restrictions or permissions are before I buy, is there anyway to do this? If not can you return a product if the restrictions prohibit the reason I bought it?
