The "Fever Proof" Nurse Uniform of the 1800'a
Inspired by the elegant and sexy outfit by the talented Littlefox, I wanted to learn more about Victorian era nursing Uniforms. I found it interesting that concept of the nurse came into its own identity around 1800, as prior to that the role was subordinate assistant to the monk or medicine man without tier own uniform. The first marketed nurse uniform, similar in form to Littlefox's design (with tight collars and cuffs) was called the "Fever Proof" Uniform.... Unlike the Littlefox incarnation, the sagging upper fit of the original Fever Proof uniform, really did not "fire up" the patient quite like this one. So I guess it worked ;)

Thanks for posting this. One thing to note is the nurse's cap was often a design specific to the school/hospital they where they trained. I work with nurses, and I use nurses a lot in my renders at deviantArt. I stripped the textures and made a 50's style nurse outfit out of the Genesis 50's Waitress outfit. This is a very nice outfit. Bought it today. I wish, however someone would make textures without that silly cross.

I love the new Victorian Nurse outfit.
A V4 version would be appreciated.
.
I'm running Carrara 7Pro and not Genesis.
Thanks
I was tempted to buy it but noticed in the last promo pic that the apron and the dress are in fact one piece. That decided me against getting it as I wasn't sure if I could just hide the apron or not.
Dream Cutter, thanks for the links to the articles as they were really informative about how different the styles became from the original nurses uniform.
I think we need to model one of those "Mouth Gags", the handy dandy anesthetic alternative: http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/upload/73042825176563340_Zek5SaaT_b.jpg
I 'spose its better than lead poisoning by biting the bullet.
EDIT: Created! Download 3d obj model version here: http://farmpeeps.com/FarmPeeps_MouthPlug.zip
Its 16k quad poly UV & hi-res textured for close ups.
Apparently these worked with arm restraints, and the patient had this gag screwed into their teeth to keep their hollering gagged. I'm sure other creative uses can be found to re-purpose.
How posable or morphable is the skirt?
Picture as promised...lots of options via the surface tab to turn different pieces off.
Doesn't seem to be many morphs and I haven't been able to find any handles or ghost bones yet.
Legs on dress are still labeled as right thigh and right shin.
I'm thinking I might need to relabel them to get some poseability.
Edited to add just discovered a Left Hem and Right Hem which add some poseablity.
This one went straight into the cart and through checkout at top speed, but I won't get to play with it for a while yet-- I'm at work (and when I'm done at the office, I have to teach statistics for a couple of hours). I'm glad to know the apron can be hidden-- I kind of assumed that based on other LLF outfits. :) I'd be interested in knowing how well the dress can sit-- "A nurse never stands when she can sit, and never sits when she can lie down." (From one of the Cherry Ames books I read as a youngster!)
I haven't tried sitting yet...it's quite fiddly to pose but that may just be me learning to use it.
I've tried a couple of Grace in motion poses...but my renders may not be what others will get. I've renamed the nodes on the legs of the dress...which is what I would do if creating a skirt.
Here is a render using a Grace in motion pose.

Thanks, sounds as if it should be usable.
Thanks, sounds as if it should be usable.Yeah...it's useable just fiddly.
It gets all twisted when I've tried to sit it...I think it possibly needs a morph to sit properly.
Just out of the 3D modeler...

Another site referencing this type of surgical gag and its used to keep airways open on unconscious patients. Some cool and freaky utensils here...http://www.cultofweird.com/medical/vintage-surgical-tools/
My thoughts exactly.
I love that it's modest, though it could be more wrinkly and the bodice less snug.
I would buy a V4 version. Genesis clothing is just too ... fiddly (I love that word!) with inconsistent results in Poser.
I share your sentiments on a V4 version
I'm curious. The fiddly bit in Poser? What exactly is fiddly about the clothes in Poser? I don't find them fiddly at all in Studio 4.5 and in fact am amazed at how well they work no matter what I do with the figure. Is it something missing in the importer? Something you expect will get better? As for the bodice being snug, I picked up SickleYields BreastFixer which includes a DSON version. (Haven't gotten around to installing it yet---story of my life.)
Yes. Would be far more flexible without the cross built in. I haven't yet installed and examined it, but given that *every* texture set has the cross in the same places, I'm assuming that it's built in. If it turns out not to be that's even better.
Well that's the thing. The clothing is created to fit Genesis in DS4.5. You just throw the clothing onto Genesis and DS4.5 generally does it's thing to make the clothing fit.
As a rule, preV5/M5 Genesis clothing fits decently on an undialed Genesis, V5 clothing fits decently on the V5 figure, and M5 clothing fits decently on the M5 figure in Poser. It's when you start dialing in morphs that the problems begin because those morphs don't exist in the clothing. That's when you have to run the Transfer Active Morphs in Poser. When the script is run, it transfers all active morphs from the Genesis figure to all the clothing on that figure. Unfortunately, that doesn't always result in clothing that fits. If you alter a pose or add in other morphs, you will need to run the script again.
Odds are, you're still going to have poke through.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like for some uses it's more like the problems we've always had with getting morphs into clothing in order for it to fit different body shapes. Back to the future. Morph handling along with collision is one of the areas that has made Genesis so magical for me and I have done more with body shapes in the last few months than the entirety of the last decade. Is that script Poser or part of the DSON environment? Do you have collision too? If so SickleYield's stuff could be very useful. There's always improvement to hope for.
Here's a couple of renders I did of some textures using a friends PC, as I don't have DS4.5 on mine yet.
Her images aren't very good for some reason.
So the cross isn't built in? That's great to know. It's a dynamite generic Victorian getup otherwise.
I haven't installed it yet, but the promos show a non-textured view and from there, I assumed the cross wasn't built in. I bought it instantly when I noticed that, because as you say, it is a great Victorian getup. I can easily picture many women of that age using this as a everyday dress, particularly the pioneer women and lower class city dwellers. This type of item is where Fabricator will come in very handy.
Actually have a V4 one in the works right now... should be in for testing probably next week assuming I get the hair finished off and can start rendering Friday. The V4 one will have the rigged skirt with all the joints and the apron separate, but I don't know how sit worthy it will be... rigging those monsters to sit can be a serious pain in the keester... no promises.
Littlefox
That's super news, a V4 version. THanksyou. Will wait patiently for it.
Thank you!!!
Even when a dress comes with sit morphs, it really never looks right. So, the only time I sit my characters in a dress is when it's dynamic.
Besides, nurses never have time to sit, right?
I just bought the new V4 version of Victorian Nurse (decided to splurge a little since I was able to get Anabelle, character and outfit, at the 50% discount :) ). Glad to see how moddable it is - I'm looking forward to tinkering with it. I think, like Anabelle, it could be made into a lovely formal gown with mats/shaders like Ye Olde Cloths, and I want to see whether I can mod the sleeves/shoulders on this one to get a "leg of mutton" 1890's look. I also would like to see if the sleeves can be shortened, but even if they can't, I'm sure I can cover them with long gloves as a formal gown look.
