copying surfaces to exported objects

So with iray. Say you have 3 genesis figures in a scene. You need one more but your out of memory. so in order to get that extra person into your scene you have to export a genesis out of the scene and back into the scene. Cause that way the morphs and all the data on the figure isnt hogging up all this memory. So I do that... But when I do copy/paste on surfaces on Genesis dont work. So I save it as a mat preset and still it dont work... So.... How do you get a mat set onto the actor? Theres no way they expect you to do it one surface at a time thats a joke... So how do we do it?

Copy/Paste won't copy the sahder, so you need to apply the base shader first then copy the settings across. Another option is to use Edit>Figure>Rigging>Convert Figure to Prop to bypass the export/import steps.
I'm aware of that but converting a genesis 3 into a prop takes like an hour long... Defeates the purpose, also... and im aware of converting to iray uber base Richard ... lol ... O-o
I had to be reminded of Convert Figure to prop the other day, so it's not wise toa ssume people will already know all the options or requirements.
What are your OBJ export settings? I assume Write Surfaces is checked and that the imprted OBJ has the correct surfaces listed.
sorry.. just.. i dont like how every thread starts off by replying to questions with questions and then it takes 3 days of replying to a thread coving the "basics" before were talking about the real issue at hand... should work your way down instead of up. it takes for ever to get anywere when everything is automaticly assumed to be user error. its ok to forget the baiscs once in a while but its sorta maybe just a little bit insulting to assume thats the case, everytime. i used to do tec support for a computer company... i learned that asking a person if their computer is properly plugged being the first thing i ask is a quick way to insult their intelligence and those calls never go over very well. i always try to give people the benifit of the doubt as to not be iinsulting.
On the obj file, now when I import. i know I need to convert. and I do and I copy the textures from the Genesis 3 female to the OBJ file... but it copys all crazy and most of the surfaces, expecialy the eyes refuse to copy... even manually.
Well, those options look OK. If this a figure plus clothes and hair or just a basic one fiogure per OBJ?
The first go round I exported as a whole with clothing and hair.. Thats when I first saw the issue So I exported 2 seprate obj
- OBJ - G3F
and
OBJ G3F Equipment
But the problem persisted
At first I thought it was working (applying the original presets to the imported OBJ), but in fact the dress isn't - the skirt and frilly neck look about right, but the bodice and lower top are off. I did select Use Existing for Groups on export, and No Maps for textures - so clearly a lot of the material are applying.
I did collect maps and it still is acting funny. There is something now right about the way Daz has the exporter when it comes to surfaces...
Also really wish they would implement a iray shader save too on export so that you dont have to redo every fipplin thing lol
if they had that, and collect all maps, this would be a sintch.
