It will be really productive to open Carrara scene file inside Unity like it is done with Max, Maya, Lightwave and Modo. You can open a scene with all characters, buildings and props etc. It will eliminate back and forth import and export of individual assets.

  • Not likely to happen, since FBX is pretty much the standard for importing animation rigs for figures, no matter what you're doing that involves a 3D figure. Even using DAZ Genesis 3 figures in iClone requires FBX export.

I have updated the post; this feature will enable unity to natively imports Carrara files and we just need to place our .car  file in Unity project’s Assets folder. When we switch back into Unity, the scene is imported automatically and will show up in the Project view. Under the hood fbx will be used for data exchange.

    Just an update:

I first placed 3D model with animations in FBX format from Carrara into Unity's scene. Later I modified animations for the same 3D model in Carrara and saved/overwrote FBX file in Unity's Asset folder. Unity updated Carrara's 3D model and animations inside the scene without any issues.

    This resolves my concern.

    Thanks.

Here is a video showing automatic loading of Carrara's FBX model in Unity's Scene. We just have to make sure that updated FBX is re-saved in same location inside Unity's Asset Folder:
