what do I need to do in order to use this free lace material texture?......I mean to make the material transparent and not render as a "solid" material.
I have GIMP that I've used mainly for placing tatts on skin textures and for generating normal maps....but I haven't attempted to build a trans map which is what I probably need .....correct?

Yes, you want a transmap, easiest way would be to invert it and make it black and white, completely black for the holes, completely white for the cloth.
thanks for the info...you make it sound easy enough and hopefully I'll be able to figure it out.
and sorry if I was wrong in posting the texture as I thought the consent rule only would apply if used in a render....it won't happen again.
ok so I've an inverted image of the texture but I'm not sure what to do with it....I use Reality and am able to easily locate in it's userface where the trans maps are ....but where in Daz Studio would I insert the trans map I've made?
I assume Reality takes the map in the Opacity channel, which is what 3delight uses.
yep that's right ....thank you.

this was embarrassingly simple ......all I had to do was load the image into GIMP ,hit the invert then load the map into Daz.
I have a question about trans maps.
I get how a trans map works when used with a fabric material but why are they used with hair textures?
Most hair isn't modeled as individual strands -- if you look at the clay renders in promos (or remove the transmaps) you'll see they're usually a collection of flat pieces. The transmaps give the illusion of individual strands.
ok that verifies what I thought they did....I know that in Reality if a hair trans map is faulty there will be a plastic hair effect....there is a way to fix that something I've been wanting to learn.
