greyed out smart content

I suspect this has already been covered already. I did a search, But apprently I don't know how to phrase the question. So I apoligize for the repeat. But I hadn't opened Daz for about a week. Now that I did. All my smart content is greyed out except for about 6 items. Now, for some reason. If I want to use something. I click on it and it slowly seems to download, slowly changing from grey to full colors.
Now my general question is What happened? A week ago all my content was available. As far as I can tell I'm fuly logged in, and DIM says I have 3,077 installed items. So what gives?
Thanks
Dale

Something has happened to your database or to Daz Studio's ability to communicate with it. Do you get an alert about needing PostgreSQL when yous tart Daz Studio?
No, No alert. The first time I opened it tonight. I got something about putting my name in to protect my artwork or something like that. I shut it down, and re-opened it to see if anything else came up or if anything else changed. It didn't. The product I opened stayed in color. So now I have 7 in color useable smart content items. Another thing thats irritating is Daz appears to have upgraded my program without my permission. The layouts different than when I last used it.
Thanks
Dale
If it's lost the layout, the user data (the prompt for name and so on, which is added to your files - and will allow you to use File>Save normally on a named file, instead of always getting the Save As dialogue), and lost your database that does sound as if soemthing happened to your AppData folder in your Profile folder (or the Mac equivalent). You haven't had to do a system restore?
If you mean the computer system? No, The system seems to be working fine. The only application that is acting oddly is Daz. And Daz seems to be working fine as far as rendering and its other functions go. The only major difference is the Smart content not showing up as already installed. And the layouts changed slightly without me having changed it. Mainly the addition of a new pane on the left allowing you to access the store, and the scene info that used to always be on the left has moved to the top right.
A side note. Yesterday I clicked on the greyed out DM's hidden chamber. It slowly downloaded, and changed from grey to full color. That has apparently fixed that particular product because its still accessable. So presumeably I could fix the problem by slowly clicking on all the products to re-establish them. But thats going to take a while to complete.
Do you back-up your system, including the AppData folder in your profile?
Oh, the qustions you ask. I don't know what the AppData folder is, or where it is for that matter. I do back up my hard drive to an apple Time capsule back up hard drive. So I would assume I do have a backup of that buried somewhere in there
Right, AppData is Windows - for Mac it would be the Application Support folder
Well, I found the Daz3d in the application support folder. Are you suggesting I replace that with something from my backup?
Hi, Richard.
I am coming back from a full restoral. My old hard drive is lost but I reloaded a fresh install of DAZ and all my content. It SAYS all of my content is installed in DIM but is all greyed out in DAZ except for a few items. I tried to install Genesis 3 and it choked and died. What should I do to just get the content BACK into my Content folder and Smart Content Folder?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Given how much you seem to have lost it may be worth trying - though I'd make a copy of the current folder first, as insurance.
Are you getting an alert about PostgreSQL when you launch DS?
No, though uit is odd now that most of my stuff has appeared in content library but almost nothing is marked in categories. Furthermore almost nothing shows up in Smart content.
One option is to reload the emtadata via DIM, for those isntalls - in the Installed tab click the Products check-box to select everything, then right-click and choose Reimport Metadata>All Selected
Just for the heck of it. I decided to try the fix you suggested for RKane 1. And that seemed to fix most of the problem for me as well. Theres still 4 products greyed out. But the rest are back.
Two additional questions. One easy and one hard.
1. I noticed that some of the products now have a bright blue border around them. What does that signify?
2. Now the tough one. Since the introduction of Genesis 2 and 3, These products have been mostly unuseable too me. The basic morpfs to shape the body and head were not connecting (actually we talked about this before). But now when I load the basic Genesis 2 or 3 character. Those body morphs seem to be conforming to the purchased character properly. Where I'm still having problems is in expressions. I can't get the characters to smile, frown or even open there mouths. The tools arent there or I can't find them for some reason. Any ideas?
Just a thought: Do I need the advanced Morph packages for that? Seems like basic functionality to me. But maybe I'm mistaken.
Thanks
Dale
Expressions are included with the base (the separate eye/mouth/nose settings at least) - the should be under Pose Controls in the Parameters pane, or Posing pane.
Thats what I thought. But they arent working for me with gen 2 and 3. They work with gen 1 and earlier figures.
Not working as in the sliders aren't there, or the sliders are there but don't work?
Sliders arent there.
Try selecting the head - at least for Genesis 3 female there are a lot of aliases listed for the expression morphs in the package files list in DIM, though I thought they did show on the figure node too.
Sliders arent there to pose the face. Under shaping there are a couple sliders to post the face in a general charactr sort of way (victoria 7, vs the Summer caharacter used in the example. The sliders do appear to be there to move the and pose the other body parts. For the record. I haven't bought any advanced morph packages, since basic stuff doesn't seem to work.
