stained-glass shaders or window prop set

I would love to buy stained-glass iray shaders. The closest I've found is something like this, which are nice but I want multi-colored shaders that could create a kaleidoscope of colored light coming through a window. Preferablly a mix of seamless tiles which could cover generic planes of glass of any size, and maybe some shaders with real depth to create ornate gothic style windows. Or maybe a stained-glass window prop set, that I could use to kit bash.

There are these that you might be able to use (look at the diamond promo):https://www.daz3d.com/iray-shaders-glass

That might create a slight prism effect with the lights positioned just so, but I'm looking for stained glass seamless shaders to actually create my own windows. I've found plenty of tiles, but they are not public domain, so I would have to buy tiles or create my own. Which I might do, might be a good learning experience to make my own shader presets.

There are filters in Gimp & PS that somewhat create stanted glass effects but they are only so-so

It would probably be a good idea to make a opacity map for the leading.

    I wouldn't use Opacity..I use the Metalicity/Roughness Iray shader..the default.

    Share Glossy Inputs - OFF

Use the gloss for gloss only and use the Refraction colour fpor the glass colour by using the base colour map.

    Set Refaction to 1.46 - 1.55 at 1.00. I just go for 1.46 now.

Use a black and white map in the Refaction Strength slot, black being the Leading, White for the glass. If you want it more opaque chose a grayscale value for the glass...but not too dark.

I don't use Refaction Roughness as it blocks a lot of light through the glass, even a small value

If you want to go that extra you can use a Black and White map, White being the Leading, Black - Glass and place that map in the Metalicity Slot at 1.00.

Turn Gloss Layer Weight Down to 0.00 and Gloss Colour Black and just use the Gloss Roughness to control how dull or shiny the Leading is.

Then invert that Metalicity map and place the new inverted map in to the Top Coat Weight slot and use the top coat to control the glass Gloss.

Doing it this why avoids having to make a proper roughness map to control the Leading and Glass in one go. :)

There are other ways but I found this to be the better and easier.

This is the second render I have done with stained glass.  It is still simplistic, using the map that came with the product, and not doing anything at all with the leading.  I used the Iray sun for the light-source shining thru the window.

@Szark, thanks for the tips! that should help a lot.... @Connatic, nice render. Was that a DAZ product that came with that stained glass window?

@DSDT - That is not a DAZ product.  However, I thought I owned a DAZ product which does have stained-glass windows, and I located it.  The windows are set up in a very good fashion, with the leading seperate from the glass.  I will be experimenting with this soon.

Looks like it is on sale right now.

I attached the material settings used in the render.

as you can see above, in Connatic's screengrab, they have gone the simple route, with a Iray Shader preset that DAZ3D provided. Yes it works so if you're not worried about realsim then that setup should do.

From a realism POV coloured glass should have a White gloss colour hence my set up. This is why we use Refaction Colour instead.

Here is the results of Szark's settings used with the Lynettes Dark Rites product window.  There is still a lot of portions to experiment with.  The window has bump map, which I left very light.  Thanks for the info Szark!  I understand a little of what you mean about the gloss/specular.  This window is great for learning.

    sweet, glad you tried it.

Danie/Marforno, the makers of that product, should make an Iray update and include these characteristics for the glass!  I bet it would sell very well.

Cool, very nice effect, thanks for taking the time to do that. I've put that product in my wishlist. Its a DAZ original so I'll be able to use my $6 coupon on it in 2 weeks.

@DSDT - Looks like it is 30% off right now, so it is $6 discount already.

I know but Daz originals are always at least 30% off if you're a PC+ member, and I already used my $6 coupon this month. DAZ originals often go down to 58% off or more, and then with the coupon it becomes almost free.

@DSDT - I missed the DAZ Original part.  That is great!  You will get a very useful product for a low price.  It comes with a lot of content, and all of it can be updated if you have the tools.  There are a bunch of poses, too.  Not difficult to adapt the V4 poses to Genesis1-3.

You should install the DAZ Deal plug-in for your browser, mentioned in this thread:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/106296/announcing-daz-deals-browser-add-on/p1

It will show the price history on items among other things. Really has saved me a lot of money in making the most of sales here.

Yeah, its funny because I used to have that item in my wishlist, not sure why I never picked it up in the past. Definitely has some useful props in it as well.
