I cannot "Uncategorize" an item... :(

For some reason, I cannot "Uncategorize" an item even though it is listed in other categories. This is making it hard to organize my directory. I am not receiving any errors from the program, it simply won't do it. It will allow me to uncheck the box but then when I hit save, it simply stays and doesn't disappear and reappears in the same category once I re-open Categories.

What gives? :(

Is this in 4.8 or 4.9?

Can you right-click on the item and choose "Remove reference"?

4.9 and I do it but the item stays in the category.

I experienced that behavior with 4.9.3.166.

It doesn't allow removing any categories supplied with the product even if you assign a new one.
No problem removing categorizations from the Lost and Found category.

Because of this, I am using 4.9.2.70 as my primary app and I have 4.9.3.166 beta installed.

Ack! I have no way to roll backwards. Do I?

You can report the issue and hope it gets fixed with the next update.

Remember that the Content Library pane is a CONTENT MANAGER; unlike the other content related views which are CONTENT BROWSERS. As a CONTENT MANAGER, it displays ALL categories and ALL categorizations, regardless of whether or not they are deleted (hidden) for CONTENT BROWSERS, because it must reflect the actual data in the database in order to fulfill its purpose as a CONTENT MANAGER. The Content Library pane does not style deleted (hidden) vendor categories or deleted (hidden) vendor categorizations, so it looks like it isn't doing anything but if you look in one of the CONTENT BROWSERS the changes will be reflected. If you want to edit categories and categorization, do it outside of the /Default category structure.

Um... no. It worked in previous versions with NO issue, It should work here as well. New and improved should not mean incapable of what it did before with no problem.

With which version are you comparing? DS 4.9 no longer has the Uncaegorised category as a catch all, so everything known to the CMS is in some category.(and product). If it was possible to completely remove an item from all categories there would be no record of it, and next time the item's metadata was releoaded from Daz (deliberately or via a product update) it would reappear (which is what used to happen); now an item can be hidden in the category views and since its state is in the database it won't pop back up - but as it is still in the database it has to be in the editing view, which is the Content Library.

4.9.3x added a check box in preferences:
"Added a "Show Hidden Vendor Categorizations" option to the Content page; when checked, vendor categorizations that the user has hidden become visible again in database driven asset/product view"

How does a user hide a vendor categorization??

As Mike said above, right-click and Remove Reference - but that will affect the non-Content Library lists only, Smart Content and the Presets tabs in various property panes.

    As a test:

Ogre Mecha has a vendor categorization of: Figures>Creatures>Land
I prefer and added user categorization of: Figures>Mechanical

I don't want to see it in Smart Content Figures>Creatures>Land but I don't see a "Right Click>Remove Reference" option.

In the Category Content Library, which I NEVER use, I can execute a Remove Reference command, looks like something is happening, but it's still in the Figures>Creatures>Land category.

I will remove my user category assignment Figures>Mechanical at a blink of an eye.  It appears this is not the procedure to "hide" a vendor categorization unless I'm misunderstanding something.

I've corrected lots of vendor categorizations that were obvious errors, now with 4.9.3x that is no longer possible.  As long as a file has 1 category, I should be able to remove the vendor supplied category using the standard Categorize screen.

I found this in the DS Wiki Docs: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/new_features/4_9/start

It implies vendor categories can by "hidden" my removing them from the Categorizing screen.  They will not display anymore if the "Show hidden vendor categorizations" IS NOT checked in Preferences. The "hidden" vendor categories will still display.  It goes on to say the "hidden" vendor categories will still display on the Categorize screen or the Content DB Editor.

    Database Driven Content Views

Modifications to the database-driven content views (e.g., the Smart Content pane and the Presets pages in the Posing, Shaping, Surfaces, Lights, Cameras, and Render Settings panes) improve its functionality and offer you greater flexibility in managing content categorization.

In previous versions, a user had the ability to remove an asset from a category, but often times the asset would be re-assigned to the category that the user removed it from when a Metadata Update was performed. This was because there was no record that indicated the user removed the asset from the category. In this version, when a user “removes” an asset from a vendor category, the vendor categorization is not “deleted,” rather it is “hidden” from view unless/until the “Show Hidden Vendor Categorizations” preference is enabled. What this means for you, the user, is you can re-categorize assets in any way you choose and Daz Studio will “remember” your changes during a Metadata Update.
