G3F Mouth Surfaces

So for some reason I'm just noticing that G3F doesn't have separate surfaces for teeth tongue gums etc. I created a new group for the tongue becuase itr was looking so washed out - but is this how others are handling it? And if I save a material preset with this new tongue surface I'm assuming it won't apply properly to a model that hasn't had the group created for it - is that right?

Yes you are almost correct. Though there are teeth and mouth surface group,but tongue sufaces are included in innermouth surface group. then if you hope to controll tongue mat with different shader properties from inner mouth, you need to make original surface group.
Then usually (I think so) we can change tongue area only by modify each texture with keep current surface group, as same UV set, if we need. (Gimp or photo shop, or your favorite 2d, 3d paint aprication ) and as you know tongue is connected with innner mouth, we may not assgin clear separate color which show border , may need to make smooth color transition on same texture.
And when I add new surface group, and if I do not hope to save as new figure or prop, Usually I save as scene subset which include new surface group, then save current surface group with customized mat. Or save as character preset (after modify surface group) first.
After that I can save mat preset for the character. (or subset) Of course the mat preset may only work correctly when I load the character preset, (subset).
