Sad day in Dynamics...
HI to anyone who is interested,
First off, I am a big fan of dynamic clothing.
Secound, because of the above, I know all the stuff that is on the market for Studio and Poser. Poser is my first choice regarding dynamic clothing. But... I would like to be able to work with both programs with equel effectiveness. And also, as a wish: I would like/love if things could be improved and modrenized in this area (Daz Studio). Just do a (dynamic cloth program) search on the internet for more ideas and options.
And I have one last wish, could we have a sale on Opti Tex's dynamic clothing products? I live in Canada and the excange rate is a killer... a $100 US is almost $140 Can. As you can guess, I can only afford sale products.
Please and thank you! And hoping for something new!

I too feel your pain. It would be great if we could convert (Clothify, in Poser's terminology) normal clothing to be dynamic in DS. Looks like we still have to wait for that feature. Have you had any success transfering clothing draped in Poser to DS?
Hi Isaac,
I bought VWD with the Studio plug in a little while ago. I am about to dive in to it this week. To my understanding it can be standalone or as a plug-in. But all in all, I plan on learning it from both angles, for Studio and Poser. So if your question is about the VWD subject. I dont know yet. I do hope it works as stated and it is easy on the user. Otherwise, a simply learning curve. I also bought a plug-in by Lola69 that stats it can convert Poser stuff to work in Daz's dynamic simulator, have not used that so far. Could be an excellent product if it works the way I would like it to work.
But as I said above, I would be happy as a pig in mud. If Daz or someone updated/improved its dynamic cloth simulator to work with all the dynamic cloth products on the market. You know, one program fits all sort of thing. In my books, it would make Daz Studio perfect and the go to program for all things!
SimTenero seems to be working to a new dynamic system...
There are some video on YouTube, looks amazing! I'm waiting for it!
Hi EportsBlade,
Actually I don't have VWD. I have heard varying reports. Some say that it does give really good results, others say that it is very difficult to work with. So I would be very happy to hear your experience with VWD. Regarding the DAZ dynamic cloth system. It is based on Optitex technology which may mean DAZ can't modify it themselves. I don't know whether a "converter" is possible, but as we have not seen one yet, I would assume that it is not possible (or practical). A new system, such as described by Imago, seems a more likely solution. Whether or not that could be or would be integrated into DS is an entirely different can of worms. Perhaps it will be a stand alone system which could be used alongside DS? In the meantime, if you don't want to be limited to Optitex compliant clothing then you can try using Poser or Blender and exporting the results to DS. I'd also be interested to know how you got on with that workflow if you have the time to explore it.
both it and the plugin are 40% off at the moment BTW
I just bought it
Sickleyield has some tutes on youtube
The Optitex goodies do go on sale now and then, although I think the last time was a good few months ago. There's also a pair of big sales in October and November, where I'm fairly sure they were on sale at least once or twice.
The Optitex clothes tend to go on sale whenever a co-designing PA's store does (Khory, SimonWM, Draagonstorm) and some of the ones without a codesigner have been on sale recently (kilt, doorman, flamenco dress, etc) as part of one of the "older content" sales.
Most optitex clothes are free:

Personally, I use VWD. Then your entire library becomes dynamic.
Also, you can use VWD on Optitex clothes. ;)
And having used both, VWD isn't more difficult to work with than Optitex.
Hi,
You guys are tempting me to have a go with VWD, but I have a couple of questions:
I looked at the product details and saw the attached image:
1) Under operating system Window 10 is not mentioned. How well does it work under Win 10.
2) Under software DAZ3d Studio is not mentioned at all. Does VWD work with DS 4.9 for example? Are the output files consistent with DS?
3) Under Base Figures, there is no mention of Genesis 3. Does VWD work with Genesis 3 figures?
I'm guessing that the answers are, "fine", "Yes" and "Yes". On the other hand, old age has taught me caution ;)
1) I use Win 10. Works great.
2) Not natively. You have to buy the bridge too: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/daz-studio-bridge-for-vwd-cloth-and-hair/116509
3) It works with literally everything in Daz. The bridge handles the import/export as objects, whether you designate it as collision, cloth, or hair.
The only drawback is the pain you'll experience at first. It'll crash on you until you play with it a lot and get used to it. Then you'll love it.
Looks like my free time is booked up for the next few weeks...
I may have questions....
Feel free to ask. It's a wonderful little program.
Cool! Too see a lot of interest on this subject. And the added info about VWD has given more incentive to dive into learning the program. The first incentive: I dug up every bit of info on the subject, tubes and so forth, mostly tubes, I also found some vids by Biscuits in the free stuff too, I am going to start there.
I will also be back for any added info on the subject of VWD for those willing to add/or offer their experance to mine.
Thanks everyone, you put a smile on my face Its not so sad for dynamics after all.
"But still, I think this tech should be improved on.... Daz! are you listening? "
Unfortunately because it is an offsite solution not much discussion will be found on this forum and what there was has been removed.
On the Renderosity forum there are dedicated threads you can follow that should answer all your questions.
Also do search youtube, there are a few helpful tutes, many PA's use this product too.
I just had a look at the terms of service re: posting and off site topics.
I hope I have not offended anyone or made it feel like I was attempting to make anything bad. I was just expressing a desire for the betterment for the future re: dynamic clothing and related programs. And a hope for a sale on Daz's dynamic goods. Thats it.
Thanks everyone.
is ok to discuss just not link to offsite commercial products or appear to be promoting them.
they are compeditors after all
this applies to Poser and Smithmicro as well as Renderosity and Hivewire
they exist, are legit but this is the DAZ forum, they have similar rules on their forums.
Discussion of VWD is not absolutely prohibited when it is in context.
a video made in it accessed with the DAZ studio plugin rendered with iray
Your video is excellent and I'm jealous as all got out. I bought it but had nothing but trouble. The few times it didn't crash or lockup, it shot vertices all over the place and turned even simple items into an unrecognizable mess. They at least gave me my money back, but I keep hoping that the authors get the bugs out as I'd love to try it again.
odd maybe it has improved or my hardware better?
my first go was not even too bad
one must keep stuff low poly though
I edited that monk's robe with geometry editor making the bottom half a separate prop as was too much for it otherwise
am used to doing such stuff in Poser though (obviously not geometry editor but creating separate prop clothes)
I wonder if DAZ3d and/or the original author would make a plugin for DAZ so dynamic clothing and the resultant animation potential could be done directly within DS? That would be worth paying for. Or maybe their deal with Optitex prohibits that?
Nice video!
Wow, that's too bad. I have run it on two different laptops now, both i7 processors, and it worked well. However, the only time I got the jaggy vertices everywhere and then a crash, the mesh I was using was very dense or were subdivided OR the import option into VWD was set to subdivide the mesh. I other words, the cloth had LOTS of vertices. That gave VWD issues, a long time to run then issues converging leading to the jaggies and then a crash. I found that turning off subD on the cloth item before export and making sure on the import options the choice to subdivide is not used allowed most items to work. A few items which had really dense meshes even at base resolution had issues, for that I used the DAZ Studio plugin Decimator which, unfortunately, is not free but if you have it, it can really help make the mesh less dense without affecting it too much.
I'm pretty amazed at that th3Digit posted. Layers of cloth would seem really hard to do. I think the creator of VWD says to do layers you do the bottom one first, send it back to studio and then bring it in as a collision item and do the next layer, etc. Lots of opportunity for a crash somewhere it the pipeline. Very impressive that it worked so well!
This is really impressive! Great job
I'm going to have to experiment, but it occurs to me that Iray does something cool about water and volume...
So, normally, you need a complete volume for SSS and similar to work properly. But... all Iray needs is an entering and exiting surface. Like, if you have two planes set to volumetric water and look at it from above, everything with a surface above and below from the camera angle is processed with volume.
So I'm thinking... maybe I could set up a river by creating a water surface as a draped plane with another river bottom surface also set to water. Ideally, with gravity and an inclined plane and rocks and such, maybe get some simulated turbulence... hrm...
TY
and Timmins I was thinking dynamics and fluids too, maybe spheres/beads and some shader that blends them to look like water.
Well, at that point worth looking into https://www.daz3d.com/simtenero-particle-physics-core-engine
have that, is OK for a few drips and sprinkles
Actually if you ever venture into Unity the same authors (Virtual Method) that wrote Obi Cloth, have products Obi Rope, Obi Fluid, and Simple SSAO although in total they will set you back $187 if you include price of Obi Cloth.
