Worlds Edge's Trials And Errors

  • I'm going on vacation for two weeks so if I'm scarce, that's why.  I'll have my ipad with me and may get the chance to pop in every once in a while, but no rendering for me.  Maybe I'll learn how to use procreate on the iPad if I'm desperate for a creative outlet.

  • I tested FSWA Willa for teen Josie's expressions.  I think they came out good, but I didn't use extreme expressions.

Sorry about the render quality.  I only rendered to 60 percent and I mucked up the pants - please ignore them.  I'm packing and such so I didn't have time to fix or play some more with the render.

  • I hope you have a fantastic time!  I take my laptop on vacation with me, sincerely pisses my husband off lol.  But, what am I gonna do if rains all day?  Besides, wouldn't you rather have me doing art instead of shopping on those rainy days?  lol, so far, I haven't really convinced him.  I do hope you have a wonderful time.

She's cute, and you know you are a die hard Daz fan when you set up a render while packing lolol!

  • LMAO - yes, I have turned into a die hard Daz-er apparently.   I even came back and cartooned her - which came out pretty good.  I might put that up in a bit.

I often take my laptop with me, but I will have a lot of family about so I don't think they will let me do Daz-things.  I am taking tutorials and such on my iPad though, and I should practice line art so I may do that on my long flight and during down times.

I don't know about Daz saving you from shopping though.  Shopping apparently goes hand to hand with this hobby.  I think I need to start winding down on purchases and start rendering more.

And thank you, I'm sure I'll have a great time.  But the time right before and right after a vacation are when I need a vacation most!

  • Lol we frequently joke about needing a vacation after our vacation!

I love Willa's expression in the second one- like, "Not impressed."  Have fun on vacation!

  • Thank you, on both counts!

  • Have fun on vacation!  :)

I had a great time on vaca and one of these days I will try to use one of my own pictures as a background, like fishtales often does.  My photos were taken on a phone so I'm not certain they will look great but I won't know until I try.

While away, I did purchase a bunch of stuff via my iPad, but DIM installation has been ultra slow, as in unbelievably slow.  While I'm still downloading, I decided to post work a prior render featuring Darwinsmishap's lovely character Elosolus  .  Here are the pre and post versions:

    Welcome back.

If you do use an image for the background make sure it matches the dimensions of the rendering camera or it will look distorted. Either that or resize the render window to match the picture size or a ratio of it e.g. picture is 4000x2000 so 2000x1000 or 1000x500 etc.

Well I did get to see castles in Scottland, so I might have dragged the boy and his unicorn over with me, lol   Thanks guys.  And Fishtales, I will keep your advice in mind when I try to use my own picture as a background.  Thank you.

I'm trying to get better at kit bashing so this is the beginning of my efforts to gather things from various sets.  Right now the props are from one set, but I plan to try to put it all into a room or enironment, and add other props as well.  In the meantime, I wanted to test out Betty and so far I love playing with her.  I did modify her face morphs some.  I stopped the render at 0% as I was on my laptop and it is slower to render.  I also puchased the new toon character Erre   I love these toonie/manga characters by @DMaster  I really hope that the artist makes a male toon as well.  Oh, I used Goblar's  hair on her.  Oooh maybe he can serve as a male toon character to pair with her, lol

I can't decide whether she is blowing a kiss or demanding "what the heck are you doing in my art studio?"  LOL

    She's cute!

Sounds like you had a great time on vacation as well!  Scotland is on my wishlist of places I want to see.

  • Great post work on the unicorn image.  I always wanted a unicorn, too.  It was one of my greatest wishes when I was a kid.  :)

Betty looks great and I love that attitude!  :)

I thought I replied to your question about the little critter in the Queen of Hearts render.  Its called the Mystikoi.  Its an older prop but super cute.

From the promo pics, Giuseppe looked like a really nice character but his skin appeared way to ruddy for me.  I was uncertain about whether I could change that to fit my needs since I'm not yet great at tinkering/changing things.  Then I saw @knittingmommy's recent render and had to get him.  Using @Novica's advice, I changed the skin color by changing the white point in tone mapping to slightly pink.  It worked perfectly for me.  I also tried KM's settings but did not her exact results.  For some reason my environ map looked different, perhaps that has to do with it.  Plus the usual user (me) error, lol.

Anyway, long story short, I like the character a lot.  He is wearing Nick Hair and fashion army outfit.  The only post work I did was flatten the straps on the holster/bring them closer to the body as I was unable to get a perfect fit in DS.  Left is out of the box skin tone, right is with white point changed.

And one more of Giuseppe.  Had a bit of fun rendering him this weekend, in case it isn't obvious.  At this angle, he looks like he has a bit of "Elvis" in him.

What environment map did you use? Did you have the iRadiance HDR #30 in there? I wonder if I goofed on which one I used? I'll have to look at it again when I get a chance to pull the file open in DS again. I could have sworn that's what my file said but it's hard to figure out from the titles vendor give files sometime that show up in DS when you try to go back and figure out which thing you actually used was. Do you have a screenshot?

Of course, the settings are only supposed to give people a jumping off point.  I think your version turned out pretty good. I like that last final one.

Thanks Knittingmommy.  My map had two separate blue areas surrounded by dark vignette, yours has one.  But a lot of them worked out nice, so I'm good.  I wasn't complaining, just noting I wasn't able to duplicate your wonderful render :)

Now that I learned to use content package assist, thanks to Novica's patient instruction-giving, I've been installing products from other sites.  In the process, I've been testing them.  This is a good thing because I find I buy a lot of stuff from Daz that I don't take out for a spin even!  I'd be surprised if I've used 10% of the products I've purchased.  Anyway, perhaps I'll get into the habbit of trying out everything I buy right away.

In the meantime, here are two new products in my runtime.  I haven't rendered them all the way - both to under 10%, so the characters are still grainy, but the products seem to look ok.

The first is executive hair by Redzstudio, the other is leather bodysuit by Zachary.  Both from Rendo.  The hair actually comes with different styles.

This is celebrity character Sean by @phoenix1966, in cool style outfit and wearing heath hair.  I entered the post worked version in the 3rd Annual It's Raining Men Contest.  My first contest entry!

I'm having fun playing with fangtastic  today.  I'm working on another entry in the It's Raining Men contest and it appears my character wants to be vamped, lol.  I'd show some fangs examples, but I think the contest rules say no posting anywhere before you post at the official thread.  If I get time and can fang out some other character, maybe I'll post some examples then.  I'm just relieved that the product is easy to use.

  • I like your entry! Nice work. I picked up Fangtastic because I had a lot of fun with the versions for the G2 figures. I haven't used it yet. Cake One does a great job with those products, though, so I think you'll have a lot of fun with them. I expect to see pictures when you're done playing!  :)

I really like your entry for the contest, very cool!  I don't have the fangs so I will be most interested in seeing what you do with them.

I'm working my way through more stuff as well.  Its kind of like shopping all over again without the pain of spending any more money lol.

Yes @icedragon, I'm getting braver and trying stuff that isn't just a preset to click on.  And I'm discovering I have a lot of products that have never seen the light.  So I'm trying stuff out now.  But also I'm at the point where every single thing isn't taking me as long, so I can affort to take time/read instructions on the less basic things.
