Can you see any problems with my transfer plan?
I am doing a big DAZ 3 transfer tonight from my old Windows XP machine to a new 64-bit Windows 7 machine. The tough part is getting all the content moved from one machine to the other without any hitches. Please look over my plan and tell me if there are any holes you spy in it.
1. On the Windows 7 (64-bit) computer I will install 64-bit Daz 3 (build 3.1.2.32) . I’m assuming that any content I was using on the old 32-bit Windows XP will work the same on the 64-bit platform in W7?
2. I will copy the runtime folder from the Windows XP "content" directory and paste in into Windows 7 "content" directory. I think Windows will give a prompt at this point and i should say merge folders, right? Keep in mind I am installing Daz 3 with no default content so there will be nothing important in the runtime.
3. I have all my content manually categorized in the content manager. If i take the Daz 'content' file from my XP machine and paste it over the the 'content' file on the W7 machine, will my categories show in the new Daz install? (If not, I have to organize everything all over again-not fun!)
4. Finally, I like having the ability to uninstall models if needed, but since i am simply copying the runtime folder over to the new computer, the uninstalls files will not be created. Is this a workable solution: Can I take the XP uninstall files from C:\Program Files\common files\daz and put them somewhere in Windows 7.

AdamR has a great Tutorial and files to help with this. It worked 100% for me when I went from XP32 to Win764. I'll find the link for you.
The problem isn't the uninstallers not working (all it is, afterall, is a simple program that deletes files)...they will 'work'...if they knew where to look for what they are supposed to delete. The problem is that none of the data as to where everything is installed will be transferred. That's stored in the registry...and without a great deal of work, THAT is not transferable. So, while the installers will work, they won't do much without the 'location' data. (Not worth the hassle.)
What's the point of using the DIM (from 4.5), if I can just copy all my files over from a previous install? Does it read what's in my runtime? I have a lot of stuff that is not Daz...maybe half.
Just Checked Adams stuff. Was on the OLD forums and I'm timing out before I can get to it. The Forum Archives hate me and always have from day one.
Make sure you copy over the whole content folder, not just the Runtime subfolder.
