doing recovery from data loss....
the previews are about one quarter of the size that windows will display in extra large icons...
---
maybe years ago in the days of space crush...
but with a 4 Tb drive at around a $100 ... give me big icons... make it an option in the preferences for what size icons to create...
----
I'm reviewing several thousand files...
---
now the ultimate uber implementation would have the downloaded zip files have an icon of the product...
or when you click on an item in the DIM have a preview pop up with the other info about the package....
In the pictures below... which window has the render preview and which the duf ones... pretty obvious...

DS does support larget .tip.png images, which have the same base name as the .duf file and the standard thumbnail. Of course the creator has to include them, and they are a relatively recent addition so older products won't have them.
Products do have thumbnails - connect will download them automatically, DIM will not but can be told to (for the current item or for all selected) via the right-click menu.
sigh... with 300 gigs of daz product and a connection that can be slow... I download during my plans "free time".,,,
----
as for creater having to include... it would seem to be daz that has the most money to lose if I cut way back on my purchases because I can't keep track of what i have now...
(psst ... write a program to scan delivery packages and create the images...has to be a simple thing compared to the 3d program.)
---
but the biggest thing would just be bigger previews...... I'm looking for some files that got shoved around with hard drive issues ....
---
I can't remember if I can disconnect connect completely but everytime daz can't find something instead of going to the DIM and showing where the item to reinstall is.. it wants to download the item again...
---
and the listing of missing files is really handy... except it's not a window that can stay open while you troubleshoot... you can't do a thing until you close it... or copy it to word pad and then close the window...

the render thumbnails work like other thumbnails.. the little preview pictures that go with the scene saves are a relic from some eons ago in the past when you couldn't add an icon to a file and when space was so dear you couldn't have nice icons because of space limitaions...
----
saving a decent sized preview of the scene save would need to be done by the program...
techinically I would imagine a script could be written to do a quick 2x2 render of a scene and then put it in the file with the scene save...
but I don't have enough time to do all the other stuff I want to get done... as well as tackle a new language ...
