My Content move failed--a little advice would be nice.
Last night I moved my content folder from an older XP machine to a Windows 7 64-bit machine. Then I pasted the 'content' file over (and all the other folders and files that are in the "resources" folder), in hopes it would bring up all my categories in the content manager. The categories show, but if I click on a folder that is supposed to have my categorized content in it, I get the ol' "missing content" window pane and it asks me to "locate files" or "clean up database". So then I tried a "search for content", and it adds 27,000 files to the database, but once again I click on the categories and I get the "missing file" pane.
Detais....
The content folder was copied to the following folder in Win7:
c:/Program files (x86)/Daz/Studio/content Note: my old XP machine does not have the "(x86)" denotation in the directory structure. That's the only thing that's different as far as the address path goes.
Since the categories are not working with this folder, I also copied all the content files to the default Daz 3 content folder which is:
c:/users/administrator/Documents/Daz3d/Studio3/content
In the Preferences > directories, I have tried including combinations of these two folders in both the Daz Studio Native and the Poser Native directories search... but it is a no go.
Finally, .... When I get the "Missing Files" window, I am able to click "Locate File", and find the file which then inserts itself into my content manager neat as you please! So, the stuff IS there, i just can't get everything found en masse and placed into the correct categories!

Is there a How to posted on this forum anywhere?
Very not a good idea. Win7 protects the Program Files folders (yes there are supposed to be two of them, for native-64-bit and 32-bit programs) so that only programs go in there, not the data used by those programs. When you installed D|S to the Win7 machine, you should have got a default content location set up in your My Documents folder, this is where you should merge your old files into.
Thanks I will reinstall and choose the default content folder that is suggested by the prompt.
You're still going to need to modify the paths in the category database -- Adamr001 has a tutorial on it on the old forums: http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=101939
Cool! The tutorial says first thing: I need to back up my content database with a special script. Unfortunately, the link to the backup script is dead. But...I do daily back ups of my resources folder myself, and have my last 'content' file backed up on an external drive. Is that single file good enough? Or is the backup script more involved?
No, backing up the "content" file is all you need to do.
Nevermind. Edited for NOT reading before Posting.
