Is the RSL editor tab for the Renderman Shader Language?

If so, has anyone used it?

I have a book on RSL mostly use it to help me figure out what the bricks in the shader mixer will do and understand some of the math behind things. I've also taken a stab at the shader builder thanks to a few tutorials I discovered.

I also have the standalone 3DLight render engine installed, and the book has been helpful as I go through all the shaders that came with it as I dig more and more into RSL

I just downloaded a couple of free shaders from http://lollipopshaders.com/ but they are not SL files, they are SLO files which the RSL editor will not open... wondering if I can paste them in and get them to work... I tried to compile the shader I pasted in, but I can't seem to tell what it did... or how to apply it if it did anything.

but I just found this: http://www.flamestudios.org/downloads/shaders/amp/ShinyTextureMapMetal.sl

when it complies it, it converts it to an .SDL file, which from a quick search of my hard drive show up as DAZ shader files..

so hold on going to test something.

edit nope still stuck on something, but the shader builder code for available shaders look like sdl files, but I don't see where to load them..

however I do have the tutorial for making the Mike King Gooch Shader in DAZ 4.5 which goes into how to break down SL files with the shader builder to make the shaders..

hmmm I really need to play with this..

THANK YOU! I'm so lost it's not funny! If and when you figure it out, please let us intellectually challenged types over in this corner know how you did what you did or are going to do... well, you know :)

For sl you go in Shader Builder right click in the work area and select New Block->Macro From Shader source (.sl) then connect everything as needed. The ShareCG tutorial Rareth pointed to is very well done and explains it nicely (non-math heads will probably have some trouble nonetheless to adapt other sl shaders).
For Sdl, I have no idea. Or rather I know you have to write (or adapt) the DS support files, but at least one of them is encrypted so good luck figuring out what or how to do it. I've never really understood how to link the RSL editor to the rest of DS.
