Can a Wearable Preset's pose override limits?

I created a wearable preset that includes an object parented to the hand, and a pose for the arms and head. Some of the pose controls in the pose exceed the limits. When I apply the saved wearable preset, I am not presented with the dialog to allow it to exceed the limits, so the resulting pose is incorrect. Is there a way to make a wearable preset turn limits off on parts of the pose that exceed limits or make the wearable preset display the dialog to ask the user for permission to exceed the limits?

  • This is exactly the question that I need an answer to, but looks like no-one has the answer?  Really hoping someone does have the answer.

I have the 'Pose/Shaping preset loading' option in Preferences set to 'Show the Preset Exceeds Limits dialog', and the DUF file for the wearable has the correct over-limit value in it for the specific rotation on the relevant node.  I have tried loading the preset with CTRL head down and without, neither shows the dialog and the pose is applied as if limits are on.

Is there a method to get this to work?  Either just overriding the limit silently or by showing the dialog, I have no preference but I need it to work.  If there is no solution, then I assume it's a bug and I will report it.

  • ^As far as I know, it's not possible (which is a shame and should be a feature request (along with allowing hierarchical materials presets to choose individual surface settings)

Thanks for the input.  That's a pain.  I guess I'll log a support ticket and see what comes back.

  • Almost 4 years later, this problem still exists. I have great swordfighting poses, which of course exceed the limits and where the sword comes as a wearable. It's a real shame.

I've also noticed that on some models the Y alignment is suddenly no longer correct. I don't know if this is due to the wearables, as I've never actually had anything like this before without wearables.

An ad-hoc way is to save a pose preset and then save the wearable with that saved pose as a post load script. Dirty but should work.

Yeah, I've seen that post script option .... but man: does it really have to be that complicated??? I've now decided to create my project (16 poses with exceeded limits) the old school way: separate pose presets for the model and the sword prop (not a figure, thats why I can't use hierachicals).

Nevertheless - thank you very much for your answer:)

I believe it could've been done from development perspective...but..

Well, as a temporary workaround... a 'cheating' trick to modify that "condition" - Open your wearable preset with Notepad++, Line 5, change "wearable" to "preset_pose". It'll work with no harm...

this trick works with hierarchical poses too. They too dont ask for exceeding limits as is.

Thank you very much for your comments and advice. I will definitely try it out ... but I'm currently working on a cool pose set WITHOUT WEARABLES ;-)

If the trick also works with my poses, I will get back to you and share my experiences. The wearables are really a great thing to not have to annoy users with the positioning / parenting of props.

No problem, just take your time... Looking forward to your work... I know recently you've landed on Rendo, laugh

Most vendors just include a note to Turn Off Limits before applying poses to avoid complicating things unnecessarily.  Some people either don't read or ignore this advice and things don't look right, but I've seen this with many pose products.

Not really true... less vendors from Daz3D store include such a note... even there's usually no such a note in pose products from Daz Originals.. There're a few but mostly from 3rd-parties... esp. in those special pose products ...

Besides, carefully use Turn Limits Off and meanwhile better control the extent of over-limits when rotating joints, because limits are just turned off on rotation properties but not on corrective morph properties, then in most of the "over-limits' cases, the shape around joints looks ugly... Most of the users don't know how to well fix them.

    A really great tip, crosswind!!!!
I just ran a test and all 16 "weaqrable" poses are now running again with the "limits" dialog displayed. Super! I will now do a few other tests with other models ... but I think it will work really well with the workaround :)

If I have time, I'll write down the steps in detail here (incl. DAZ Batch Converter) - and then I look forward to hopefully many great projects (also from others) with "Wearables" as customer-friendly solution.
