Rendering invisible objects that cast shadows

Greetings,
Is there a way to hide (e.g.) most of the objects, but have them still cast shadows on the objects that remain?

Or, failing that as a straightforward feature, pre-calculate shadow maps, and then re-use them even if I've hidden items or otherwise changed the scene?

As far as I know by changing the Ubersurface 2 material options "Fantom" to on this will just do that:

"When Fantom is On, the surface will not be visible to the camera, but will be visible to shadows and raytracing. This can be useful when an object is used to create a reflection or shadow, but we do not want to see the object"

    Also included in the bundle:

    On a side note:
Is omnifreaker still active? Any words on new updates like Uberenvironment 3 or Ubersurface 3 etc?
